Suggestions on New Forest or elsewhere?

Suggestions on New Forest or elsewhere?
Boyfriend and I have recently got back from a week in Cumbria. We took our bikes, he took a laptop and two mobiles!
He likes to look around places a little bit but otherwise settle down with the laptop and surf the net or watch telly.
This drives me crazy. I want to be out and about.
We went cycling once in Grizedale forest and it nearly killed us. We took the intermediate route and ended up pushing the bikes most of the time!
So this has led me to you heregers.
He fancies the New Forest next year. But we have decided we have to pick our destination with more care ths time.
So.. he wants somewhere to relax. I want access to a train or bus station so I can go places. We like privacy in our location (no holiday parks/camps) and natural surroundings.
Anyone got any ideas before we have to resort to separate holidays?

Brockenhurst in the New Forest.
It has a train station that can take you to Southampton, Bournemouth Christchurch, Poole etc etc
It's in the New Forest (not far from Lyndhurst) so plenty of opportunities for Bike Riding. Lots od ponies/ dokeys wandering around - There is a lovely hotel there - The Balmer Lawn plus I'm sure lots of B & B's and camping sites.
Hope that is of some help.

I would agree with Brockenhurst. In the forest but also on the mainline from London. You can get as far as Weymouth from there. Portsmouth is probably also doable, although you might have to change at Southampton.
I've heard the Balmer Lawn is gorge, but I've never been.
