Reiki experience to share & seek thoughts.

Hello everyone.
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. :) I wanted to share my recent experience that I had with Reiki & crystal healing. I've been seeing an aromatherapist for relaxation & she told me that she is a Reiki master & suggested that I consider having some healing as I have a longstanding & nasty heart condition. As I have an implanted defibrillator for dangerous arrhythmias, she said that she wouldn't be happy to use crystals on me. I had a session of Reiki a month ago & found it deeply relaxing & calming so when I returned last week, we agreed to repeat the experience. After the initial "wind down" the therapist told me that she was going to use crystals on me - I felt OK about this as I have built up a trusting relationship with her & thought that she felt it would be safe to proceed. After about 10 minutes or so, I had a sudden "surge" which caused me to almost leap up from the table & when I opened my eyes, she had her hands over my heart area. I felt total panic - I have so much fear centred around my heart condition & this feeling came from nowhere - I had been so relaxed before. The therapy continued & at the end, we discussed what had happened. She told me that my head & throat chakra were "blocked" (the tiny crystal on my forehead had felt like a heavy boulder & I hadn't been aware of a stone on my throat until I felt her remove it!) but my heart chakra was "open". I'm sorry to say, it was all Greek to me! I went home shaken by the experience -I don't know why my reaction was so sudden, frightening & severe but I'm afraid now to consider further treatment & will just continue with the aromatherapy massage. I wonder why she decided to use the crystals after all - I will ask her at my next appointment.
Thank you for bearing with me through this monologue but I have felt the need to share it & ask if anyone could throw any light on my experience. I have been having homoeopathy for some time for my heart condition which is incurable in conventional terms & I remain optimistic that I will return to good health at the right time in the future. Hi Perfect Rhyme,
It sounds as though you've had a real frightand for that i'm sorry. Reiki is a safe, gentle & holistic system of healing, and as such there are very few contra-indications. However, I for one teach my students to be very careful about working with clients with any kind of heart implants/pacemakers. The Reiki energy can and does affect these devices.
I personally don't work with the chakra system, so wouldn't be working directly on your heart chakra, and to be honest i'm really surprised that your therapist did !!! The effect of directing the energy specifically to the heart area is IMHO irresponsible. Eventhough you haven't beenmade ill ~ you have obviously had a real fright!
I can only imagine that your therapist hasn't fully understood the possible consequences of directing the energy in this way.I'm not an expert on crystals, but do know that many can actas amplifiers ~ perhaps this surge is what you experiened.
I wish you better and hope one day you will feel safe enough to perhaps experience Reiki again.

Hi there
I agree with meridian moon. Many reiki therapists are taught that Reiki can do no harm whatsoever and that there are no contraindications. One of the main contraindications on my opinion are heart implants and pace makers. Because the Reiki energy is electromagnetic in nature, it has been known for it to interfere with the operation of these devices. I always teach my students this.
As I said though, many therapists are unaware of this and do not exercise any precautions as they are under the false impression that nothing can go wrong. In my opinion, therapists should be made aware of these type of issues so that they are able to take more responsibility for their clients.
I do wonder why your therapist said at first that she wouldn't use crystals with you because of your condition and then she appeared to change her mind later on. It says to me that she knew there were possible contraindications and chose to take this course of action regardless.
I can understand your fright with this experience and your reluctance to try Reiki again, and I wish you al the best with whatever course fo treatment you choose to take.
Donna.

Hi Perfect Rhyme, welcome to the forum. The defibrillator is there to safeguard you, it does not kick in unless your heart gets into problems and then it will make it beat at a set rhythm for a while.
At the end of the day the choices are all yours, on one level you are looking for help, energy healingunfortunately cannot be very effective if it is enshrouded in fear, it needs to be received with love and openness, the same way it is given.Energy healing sessions areoften intuitive, what happens in one session may not happen in the next, a lot of energy workers have energy guides who advise us on when it is right to utilise this or that form of energy work in any given situation, in this way the healee receives what is appropriate in that moment of illusionary time.Your energy worker is workingto clearyour spiritual energy pathways, this in turn will make sure you have a healthy flow of spiritual energy passing through you, you can then make use of this energyto help with your dysfunctions, it will also help you to resolve your fears if you let it.

Thank you for your replies - all thought provoking & mostly confirming my thoughts. I'd like to take Paul to task though! I feel that I totally put myself in a position of love & openess with my therapist - I wouldn't have been there otherwise. The fear comes from living with a condition that is the largest cause of sudden death in young adults and it's a difficult situation to live with & be free of fear. But my main response is to the apparantly flippant reply about the defibrillator. I wonder how long you have had one? [:@]Let me say that to receive 600 volts to your chest is like being driven into by a large truck & the level of terror it brings is beyond belief. I appreciate that it has literally saved my life on 2 occasions now & having been "that close" has been a sobering experience but I thank heaven every day that I enjoy. I would not invite an experience where the device might "fire" because my pulse rate has gone beyond the boundaries of the settings. So it's not just about "it does not kick in unless your heart gets into problems and then it will make it beat at a set rhythm for a while". When I have my device checked every 2 months, the technicians are only interested in the implant - they don't see the person around it & your comment smacked of that.
I do understand the mention of intuitiveness - something I use in my practice at times when the choices are difficult to make so thanks for that. Perhaps as a new member, I shouldn't be so outspoken, but I'm afraid a nerve was hit in this case. I've said my piece now but I will close by saying that I do appreciate the time members take to read & respond. Thank you. ;)

Hi Perfect RhymeSorry if you thought I was being flippant, the device is not you, it is a machine and I have no feelings towards it at all, the machine is there as you point out to keep you alive, and yes it can't be very pleasant when it trips though it does it job when required:-)You on the other hand are a person and that makes you important, what was going though my mind when reading your post was did you have apprehensions about the use of the crystals which had in the first treatment been rejected and then applied in your second treatment.I would think that if this caused any fears to surface, then this could possibly cause your heart to beat irregularly to trigger the machine, if that is possible then overcoming some of the inherent fears will possibly help to rectify that senario.

Hello Perfect Rhyme:
I'd like to offer an alternative possibility. The body has a tendency to store traumatic events in the tissues: these events can subtlely (or not so subtley) run as subprograms in the mindbody, altering ones way of perceiving and responding to themselves and theworld. Trauma can come in many formes and can be physical, emotional or psychological, orexistential in nature.
I 100% agree that if a defib will save my like, GIVE IT TO ME!Your description of theexperience makes it easy to appreciate thatyou could be carrying the physical traumaof those shocks with you.
When lifeforce energy helps one release these things, they are sometimes re-activated in such a way that you re-experience the sensations and emotions associated with them before the trauma is cleared out of the mindbody.
Energy healing can have this effect, and there are gentler ways to release these trauma "mindbody imprints." Tapas acupressure technique (TAT) isone such method that I have found very reliably, elegantly, and gently clears traumas of all kinds. Here is the URL:
And, in my book, no one should EVER be putting objects in your mouth while you are in an altered state and don't even know they are there. This, to me, is irresponsible and could be dangerous if you are lying on your back. (an argument for general certification of energy healers?)
Healing doesn't have to be traumatic like that.
Blessings,
Alfred

Hi Perfect Rhyme,
My take on this:
First of all she said if she used crystals, that would be bad for your heart.
Then she used crystals.
You already trusted her and believed it was bad for your heart.
So you felt bad when she did it, just like she said you would, because you believed you would.
My guess is that she forgot. Really, I think Reiki can help with the emotional element of your heart condition. Reiki is a beautiful energy and really needs no crystals, candles, charms, or anything else.

Bless you all for the time taken to share your thoughts with me. I must apologise to Paul firstly for my outburst - I was feeling defensive about the issue & it's a touchy problem I have - so I'm sorry. I'm sure your thoughts & intensions were highly honourable & thank you for your reply.
Thank you Alfred11 - interesting & I'll be checking out that link. Your thoughts all made great sense. From time to time, I wake suddenly in the night convinced that the defib has just "gone off". The hospital tell me that there's nothing of note stored on these occasions but I wonder if it's more linked with what you say - reliving the experience while I'm very relaxed. I must clear up with you though that nothing was put in my mouth during my treatment - rather a crystal was placed on my throat. I hope noone else was mislead by my previous description!
Thank you New Age - I'm glad that I had "unadulterated reiki" previously, as I am linking the use of crystals with the horrible experience rather than the reiki itself. I will discuss my thoughts with the therapist when I next see her & update you on the outcome.
Can anyone tell me what she meant by the closed & open chakras please? What does it signify & is it good or bad? Sorry - just not clear.

Hi Perfect RhymeOur chakras are our energy centres where we process the energy that we use to maintain our physical reality, if one is blocked as you intimated in your first post then it cannot process some of the energy we need, so you will become depleted of that type of energy. This can manifest itself as a physical dysfunction simply because something is not getting what it requires, similar to the effects of restricting the blood flow and nutrients to part of the body. There are different thoughts on closed and open chakras, I personally believe they should always be open so the energy can flow full tilt, others think they should be closed at the end of the treatment to protect the person on an energy level.Personally I always make sure all of a persons energy pathways are clear to flow both ways and the chakras are all balanced to each other during an energy treatment, they should then automatically return to their natural state which is right for that person. So in my book open and flowing is always good,I hope that helps to answer your question. :-)
