Dear Crusty,
I have just had a quick look at your site and I'm afraid I have to tell you that the 'history' of Reiki you have published is almost completely incorrect.
A few examples:
Mikao Usui wasn't even alive in mid 1800
He wasn't principal of Doshisha University
He wasn't a Christian
He didn't study philisophy in America
He didn't fast on Mount Kori-yama (the name is Kurama)
He didn't stay up the mountain for 21 days
He didn't see the Reiki symbols in bubbles of light
Reiki isn't based on ancient Sanskrit texts
... I could go on and on.
If you go to my web site and click on 'About Reiki' and 'Where did Reiki come from' you an read a more accurate description of how Usui's system came into being.
Best wishes,

[:'(]Hi
Thank you for looking at our web site - it’s always refreshing to receive different viewpoints. As far as Usui is concerned there are no written factual records about his descent from the mountain, whether he came down the mountain by donkey or snowboard or even visited it is uncertain. What most Reiki Masters accept, including our Masters and from visits to Reiki Masters at Glastonbury, Reiki is about the handing down of sacred symbols and the Attunements. Usui is accredited with rediscovering the Reiki Healing Method. This is something we accept and pass onto our Students. The Usui story is little more than a fable, and as with the Bible, has many different interpretations. We teach the story, as our Master taught us, as her master taught her etc. etc. We have nurtured our spirituality through visits to Hippocrates Healing Temple on the Island of Kos, and the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, where the awe of millions of people could easily be felt. The stories round these places may not be true, but the many people who visit there believe it is – that is sufficient to provide a very moving and spiritual experience. We are always open to new ideas, so if you would like to send an attachment of your historical perspective to us, we will gladly put the page on our Web Site, as an alternative story.
