Aromatherapy in NHS
Hi there,
Does anybody know approximately how many NHS hospitals/clinics offer Aromatherapy in the UK? Or a percentage? I have to give a presentation ([&:]) on Aromatherapy and the NHS for my course and finding it very interesting researching this topic. However, I can't find any statistics how widely available aromatherapy is within the NHS.
Please help, I would be very grateful!!

don't know how you can find out this information - why don't you take a sample of hospitals in the London area - I know St Thomas Hospital, The Royal Marsden, The Royal Free, offer aromatherapy and possibly The Hammersmith Hospital. Aromatherapy is offered at St Thomas for cancer patients and at the Royal Marsden. The Royal Free offers it for a range of illnesses.
In the Aromatherapy Times Spring 2005 there is an article by Sue Whall "An Evaluation of Aromatherapy in the NHS which may be helpful for you - contact the IFA (iNTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AROMATHERAPISTS) for a copy.

Another two hospitals which offer it for cancer patients Northwick Park in Harrow and Whipps Cross in East London, atlhough I think the therapists often work on a voluntary basis.
The Christie Hospital in Manchester, I believe, has done quite a lot of research on aromatherapy and cancer. Jackie Stringer is the lady responsible there, I think.
Try doing a Googel search for Aromatherapy NHS.

you'll need some sort of rock solid source for the stats if its for a presentation. i have to make sure everything i write about is supported by a reference, this is being drummed into me again and again.
