Reiju attunements
Hi all,
I have not been around for quite a while due to all kinds of stuff that has been keeping me busy. I have just finished writing my Reiki I manual and did my first trail runwith it this past weekend, initiating my mom, hubby and kids to Reiki I.
Seeing as there are so many of you from the same background on these pages,I have a question that I hope someone can help me out with. I did my Reiki Advanced Training and a Japanese lineage with Penelopy Quest (Burton Mannor and the Quest Centre 2003) and my Master training with William Rand (Glastonbury and Stonehenge 2005). Now that I have finally made my start on teaching, I would like to start a share group.
Here is my question:I was wondering whether anybodyknows how to do a Reiju attunement. I did not learn how to do this in any of my trainings. I did receive Reiju attunements from Penelope Quest. We learnt how to do a healing attunement in the Master training but Reiju attunements did not come up.From what I can gather, Usui used to do this to strengthen the student's connection with spiritual energy and raise the energy levels. As far as I can find out (Reiki Source Book) this is taught by Hiroshi Doi. It would be nice if I could give some Reiju attunements during share group. Is anybody able to help out on this one or is it a case that requiresattendingyet anothercourse somewhere?
I would be most interested to find out whether any of you were taught how to do this and your take on it.
Regards
Charly

Charly,
I was taught a temporary or "heart" attunement which can be given to anyone (who is ready and willing of course) and lasts for 21 days. This allows the person to "trickle" charge themselves with Reiki for this time. It can help clients who can benefit from this temporary "attunement" to treat themselves when pain or discomfort arises at random.
I also use it to "tune up"or "open up" my Reiki 1 or 2 students during a Reiki share evening for example. It works well.
Is this the kind of thing you are talking about here?
If so, I could PM you the technique.
:)
Cheers

Dear Mr_Firstlight,
Thanks for your response. The "heart attunement" sounds interesting and I would love to see the technique. If it works well for you, it is worth a try if I cannot get more info in the Reiju technique. If would be grateful if you would PM me the technique.
This is what I have found ona Reiju attunement:
Reiju is integral to Mikao Usui's teachings. To practise the system of Reiki, a Reiju must first be received. It helps to strengthen tihe student's connection with spiritual energy and raises their personal energy levels. This in turn gives a sense of reconnection to one's true self. It also helps to clear the meridians allowing the student to conduct more energy though the body.
Reiju is the same for all levels - there are no differences as it is the student's ability to draw on more energy that creates the differences, not the Reiju itself. No symbols or mantras are used in the Reiju. The Reiju does not "attune" the students to the symbols as is believed in the West.
Reiju appears to have links to practises from within the more esoteric elements of Tendai called Mikkyo. It mirrors a Tendai ritual called go shimbo also known as Dharma for Protecting the Body.
Could it be that I am looking for something that the Japanese arereferring to as Reiju and that this is the same as whatwe now call attunements/initiations with symbols but that this was done by Usui without symbols? This does not really make sense on the other hand, as the student is not attuned to symbols during Reiju. I am getting confused trying to figure this out. Maybe, in the beginning, the level of Reiki was determined by the amount of energy the student is able to channel (in Japanese tradition?).
I do get the impression however that this is a ritual that was performed at gatherings, during hatsurei ho, to enhance the flow of energy and spiritual connection and that it was perfomed at each gathering. As this is not necessary with attunements (I, II and III as we know them) and as anattunementdoes not wear off, it must be a different ritual for cleansing and increasing energy flow.
Well I hope this clarifies my question a bit more. In the meantime, yes please, send me your technique. Could you also let me know where this comes from (lineage/branch)?
Thanks a lot and lets see who else comes back on this.

Charly, hi
what we call initiations (ie the attunement and accompanying teachings) is referred to as denju in Japanese, and is not the same as reiju [some versions of which do actually use the symbols]
here is one of the more commonly used versions of reiju:
[from my web site]
REIJU:
The Spiritual Gift
Copyright © 2002 James Deacon
It is said that originally [in place of the 'Quick-Fix' initiation set we are familiar with in the Takata Lineage], Usui Sensei utilised an open-ended, accumulative process of empowerment/attunement known as reiju.
[reiju implies: 'to confer/receive a Spiritual Gift']
Apparently, students would attend training meetings on a regular basis, and at the end of every meeting, during a meditation session, would receive reiju to further deepen and strengthen their connection, and develop the quality of their experience of the phenomenon that is Reiki. The following is one of several versions of the recently 'rediscovered' reiju empowerment process.
[Of course, this is merely a description of the physical 'form' of the process - the inner aspect: the energetic/spiritual component of sharing reiju with a student, cannot be learnt from a written description.]
Note: Initially recipient should sit upright yet relaxed on a chair, with their hands in their lap, feet flat on the ground .
Reiju: Be mindful of your intent to share reiju. Generate true compassion in your heart, and 'connect' to the Reiki Source. [Some sources suggest connecting to Reiki by chanting the DKM Kotodama ] [left][font="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"][size="-1"]Standing in front of the recipient, perform gassho and bow once.

Hi Holistic,
Had a quick look there. Thanks for the info. The previous thread on HP is very clear. I would still like to know how the Reiju is done but I am sure it will come my way if it is meant to be.... If not, I am learning along the way.
Going to surf around that site now.
Keep well

Thanks, I think this is what I have been looking for.

James' reply is spot on. I was just going to post the Reiju empowerment when I scrolled down and found it!!
When you did your Masters with William, did you do the ART as well?
