we *played* with crystals during my reiki ll and i loved it, but then i have had a thing about crystals for ages anyway.
if you dont have one, i am sure its not essential and your RM will probably lend you one IF absolutely necessary (which it shouldnt be!).
just enjoy!

Hiya Lola Rose,
Crystals aren't part of Reiki, and neither are a lot of other things such as spirit guides and chakra's, however you will find that different reiki masters practice and believe in their own things and may introduce you to these things along with your reiki training.
As said above, don't worry about it, and if you haven't got a crystal I wouldn't go out of your way to go any buy one just for the reiki training. Let your intuition guide you. If you feel you like the idea of using crystals in the future then take one with you, otherwise your reiki master should have plenty for you to select from if crystals are his/her thing.
I've personally had a go with some crystals/stones since doing my reiki 1 but it wasn't part of the course. I certainly get some different sensations from the different types.
Above all, enjoy your reiki course and let us know how it goes.

Hi Giles
Crystals were a part of the energy channelling that Usui taught, the crystals respond very well to the energies and can be programmed to give a treatment on their own.
Usui was responsible for opening Pandora's box but everything that is within that box has not been discovered by a long shot, if we are open then we can grow ;)

Thanks for that Paul, I wasn't aware.
Perhaps I wasn't too clear either. I know these things can be used alongside Reiki, but essentially Reiki is a "module" in it's own right and doesn't actually require the crystals to allow it to work.

Got it in one, Giles.
However, according to the information that I have found, there IS a reference to Usui using crystals BUT the overwhelming opinions of those currently researching Reiki in Japan are that Usui did NOT use crystals.
Usui-do was a self-development discipline - it wasn't even called Reiki. The healing 'element' arose because as one progressed on one's own self-devlopment path it was possible to help others on theirs. So the self-development became a form of self-healing and the helping of others a healing for them.

And I believe that Reiki was something that was practiced before Dr. Usui was enlightened. The difference being that traditional Japanese Reiki depleted the energy of the person giving the healing whereas Usui Reiki (as we should call what we do) does not deplete our own energy.
The latest info from Frank Ayarva Petter et. al. clearly describes that due to the changes that were made by Mrs Takata and her master (his name evades me off the top of my head) that we should not even call ours Usui Reiki but ????? Reiki (whatever his name was again).... I'll have to dig out my book at home.
It's an excellent book if anyone is interested....

Hi Giles,
The name you are looking for is Hayashi, Chujiro Hayashi.
It was he who trained Takata.
