I need a Hypnotherapist!
Hi everyone,
My partner has decided to face his old demons and sort himself out. Apparently, his speech impediment is due to a traumatic experience that he can't remember, as he was 6 year-old when he suddenly woke up stuttering. Without being a matter of concern any more, he is in search of an answer and after speaking to some people, including his Yoga instructor, he has been recommended Hypnotherapy.
I believe that there is a lot of experience in this forum and I was hoping that you could guide me and let me know of any experienced professional in London. I've been given the link below, any comments?
http://www.hypnoanalysis.com/practitioners/london.html
I would like to take the opportunity to enquiry about the learning distance course in the above link, what do you thin?
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Nati,
Hypnotherapy - along with other therapies such as EFT, NLP etc should definately be able to help. :)
The course at the link you provide is the same one, I believe, as someone I know took. I can't see her name on the practitioner list but I know it was with some hypnoanalysis board and it was through distance learning. She thinks it was wonderful and who am I to argue?
However - I do know (if it is the same one) that it is just as it says - Hypno-analysis - ie this is the only type of hypnotherapy you learn and the instructor totally dismissed the need for NLP or any other therapies that you could find in your syllabus on another course, and also pretty much ridiculed any past life work (my real interest - so maybe my wariness of the course is personal!! :)). They also did an awful lot of Freudian work - which doesn't sit well with me (I personally think the Freudian approach can cause too much harm in itself!).
I know during many conversations with her as she was learning and soon after she qualified I was left banging my head against a brick wall because it seemed what she had been taught was so blinkered and dsmissive of anything other than hypnoanalysis. Hypnoanalysis is good in many cases - but there are also many other ways of achieving a result and it doesn't work for everyone. But no telling her!! lol
Of course - it really comes down to personal preference - what do you want to learn - why - and what are you wanting to do with it.
If you wish to gain a qualification and start practicing professionally I would urge you to gain as many 'tools' as possible, as any single therapy will not work on every single person, and by being able to discard what is not working and try something new, you will be able to help more clients. Many courses also now include NLP Practitioner status which is also something to think about.
However, if you only wish to take the course to be able to help your partner then hypnoanalysis for the kind of situation you're describing could well be of benefit. (If you being so close to him means you're the best person to work with him?!)
(If this isn't the same course I'm sorry!!!) :D

Thanks a lot, Beanie, for getting back to me! I still have a lot of research to do before signing for a Hypnotherapy course but your advice has been very helpful.
With regards to professional help for my partner, would you, or anyone, be able to guide towards any direction? Do you know of any practitioner that you would recommend?
Many many thanks!

Hi Nati,
That's the best thing to do! Tons of research! :D I think it's great that you want to do a course - it's great fun and a very interesting subject to pursue! I hope, when you find the course you want to do, you thoroughly enjoy it!
I only qualified a couple of years ago so the studying part of it is still fairly fresh in my head, so if you want to ask any questions about it feel free to pm me - I'll do my best to help! :)
Re recommending a practitioner - whereabouts are you?

I am in NW London but anywhere in London would do, no fuss really! Which course did you do, Beanie?? In which school? I definitely want to do a hypnotherapy course, though not just yet as I have aromatherapy along with Tera Mey Reiki and EFT already booked and planned for the next few months but I always thought that it would be very helpful to have some background on the subject. Still, not very sure if I'd like to practise it on my clients.....it scares me somehow...
Thanks to you both!!
