Massage Tables

Hello
I am completely new and have never been on this site before.....
I am looking for advice on massage tables, I have a 24" wide plain white table which I was given but I think it is more of a beauty table than a massage table. I really want to get a good one but there seems to be so many options out there, I need advice.
I have been told that 24" is too narrow, is that so??
all advice appreciated.
thanks

Hi
The way to gauge if your couch is wide enough is to see if all your clients can lie on it with their arms by their sides on the couch without their arms falling off!
Most of my students buy their couches from Body Craft. They are sturdy, excellent value for money and are 14.5kg. They are £145 inc vat. (p.s I'm not on any commission here and am not connected to them in any way).
Have a look at their web site: www.bodycraftdirect.co.uk
I'm not sure about the measurements.
I have a hand made hard wood framed couch which comes in different widths and heights. It is great for sports massage clients as it is extra sturdy and weighs 15kgs. I bought mine many years ago from www.denisebrown.co.uk and it's still going strong.
All the best.

Mine's from Bodycraft too (not connected with them either :)), and you have the option to get a wider couch than 24 inch. The main thing is to make sure you get the size of couch you can work with easily, whether it's wider, height adjustable etc. I'm really happy with my couch and thought it was good value for money.

Hello Jennifer
Welcome to the forum.
I use a 25" wide variable height table to do most of my work on, what you need to be aware of is the wider the couch the lower you need to have it to work comfortably without over stretching, so if you are happy working across a patient on a table set at 29" high and 24" wide then to stretch over a 26" wide couch comfortably you will need a 28" high one to maintain the status quo.
If you are working in one place then treat yourself to decent either hydraulic or electric operated variable height, they start at about £600 but will last for years and save you lots of back ache and strains :-)

Hey Jennifer,
My table is an EarthLite Avalon (width 30") and I love it! EarthLite describe themselves at the Worlds #1 Brand in Massage Tables, don't know if they are but it is a fantastic table with a lifetime warranty. You can buy their tables in the UK from IPM ( http://www.injuryprevention.org.uk/ ).
Which ever table you buy I would make one recommendation, try before you buy. If possible get to a show room or sales centre and look at the table, touch it, feel it, lie on it, put it up, put it down, do it all again, look all over the table - what do you like about it, what don't you like. Remember this is what your clients will be lying on while you treat them.
