massage Jobs
Hi, I have recently qualified in Massage Therapy and have decided to work in a therapy centre or anywhere really but i am having real problems finding anywhere to work. I don't want to rent my own place yet because I want to gain experience but nobody seems to have any jobs available. Does anyone have any advice. I live in Manchester.

All I can say Linzzee is that it isn't easy for anyone. When I started out last summer, I went through the Yellow Pages and listed all the complementary centres, beauty salons, gyms, leisure centres, osteopaths, chiropractors and hotels and visited each one asking to speak to the Manager. If they weren't available I made sure I got their name and made a point of ringing them up later. If they definitely said that they didn't need anyone, I still left my card with them. If they said that they might consider it in the future, I followed my visit up with a letter and my CV.
Most places will only want you for one or maybe two days a week anyway and you may not be busy all day, but it does build up gradually. After three months I had two phone calls in a week and now work one day in a Complementary Centre and one day in a Gym and Leisure Centre, but some weeks are busier than others. Perhaps you could invest in a massage couch and work from home also or go mobile. To do this you also need to market yourself and it takes years to build up, but well worthwhile and you won't be paying any room rental.
Good luck!

I agree with what Lesley has said. Sometimes it's just a case of being at the right place at the right time. I always read the local paper cover to cover to see what's happening in the area - new gyms opening, etc.. Try and network with other therapists in your area and they will also let you know when opportunities arise. It's not easy but hard work does pay off in the end.
Good luck!

Hi again, Linzzee. Just also noticed on your profile you have put 'hoping to be a holistic therapist sometime soon'. Don't forget, if you have qualified, you are one now - so go girl!!
