Cleansing crystals that in theory dont need cleansing...
Hi! I was wondering, would cleansing certain crystals, which are "self-cleansing" do any harm?
I'm currently working with a Super 7/Sacred 7/Melody's stone and Moldavite, both of which apparently dont need cleansing, but I feel I want to put them out in the full moon which I have always done with my other crystals purely because I've worn/used them incessantly since buying them two weeks ago and would have picked up a lot of my negativity etc.
I "feel" that the moon-light would be a boost for them, I just wanted to make sure I wouldnt do more harm than good.
Thanks & Blessings...

Thanks for your replies. I will certainly be putting them out tonight and tomorrow night. It would be nice if we got a clear sky, at least for some of the time.
Hope my Super 7 & Moldavite enjoy their special treat!

Cleansing crystals is matter of choice but all theanswers are correct. Also general rule of thumb is where the crystals orginate ie above the earth or below the earth.
The Sun, The Moon, The stars, Clear running water, Salty water, The earth, Smudging, and your own breath focused before hand on white light.
All these ways help.

Working through the heart as the others suggest is an excellent idea.
I love working with both Super 7 and moldavite. They're wonderful stones! A couple of points in response to what you mention. Melody is the first author who classified a few stones as being self-cleansing. This is based on her repeated experiments with individual stones and the experiences of her students reporting back to her, so there is an evidenced based approach involved in her approach to crystal therapy. Other authors have adopted her information - e.g. Judy Hall. If you compare sections of The Crystal Bible with Melody's Love is in the Earth you can see a startling similarity in the information included by Judy Hall. Something to note, in her most recent book called 'New Crystals and Healing Stones' Judy Hall has a photo of a naturally terminated Super 7. These are not Super 7s. The Esperito Santo in Brazil mine is the only one from which Super 7 comes. The Super 7s that come from this mine grew in in seams or layers, not in points. That mine is now exhausted of Super 7 and there are legal wrangles over the mining of a new seam of the mineral found nearby, hence the lack of the stuff on the market.
As a student trained in Melody's method of healing, I know she describes Super 7 as being self-cleansing - this information should be in her new edition of her book which she is working on. I've not heard of Moldavite descibed as self-cleansing by anyone - Melody refers in Love is in the Earth to the need to avoid using salt with Moldavite as it is a soft mineral and would be damaged. That information would suggest it requires cleasning. Robert Simmons has written a whole book on the mineral with his wife. I don't recall him describing it as self-cleansing.
Here's food for thought. Even if a stone is meant to be self-cleansing, at what level do we need to cleanse it? What do we cleanse a stone of: mental programmingn someone else has used with it, negative energy someone has released into it, or simple surface dirt? I think the answer to that question will suggest whether any stone needs cleansing no matter what a particular author says. In general I think it has to be a personal response as to what needs cleansing. I regularly cleanse my Super 7, my citrines and others. It's what I feel comfortable with.
Another comment I had is more a query. I've never thought of the moon as having a cleansing energy, more recharging. When I put my crystals out in the moon light I'm bathing them in that wonderful glow to draw on that energy. I think of cleansing and recharging as two separate activities. What do others think?

Hi guys, :)
That's the way I see it, too. I clean (if needed) and cleanse, before recharging, and I love using both moonlight and sunlight, sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes both.
Another thought:Perhaps moonlight is a useful way of recharging stones which are reputed to fade in direct sunlight, like turquoise, citrineand morganite?
Incidentally, to be fair to Judy Hall, who I see as a secondary authority rather than a primary one, (and I don't always find her descriptions accurate) she does cite Melody's book in her bibliography to The Crystal Bible as a good source and as an influence on her own work.

All the books are guides - your journey with crystals is your own as they work on very personal levels with each and every one of us, so always trust your own instincts and you will not go wrong.
With regard to the cleansing/reacharging query - Crystal Cub/Wibble Puppy are indeed correct - cleansing is one activity, charging is another. Cleanse crystals in whatever way you see fit, but physically washing them or burying them in the earth seem to be the most effective methods of cleansing (only dust them if they are fragile or water soluble).
My back ground is scientific/geological as well as holistic/spiritual, so am blessed to see from both angles. Scientifically, you have to place crystals in sunlight to 'charge' them up - it is a chemical, scientific fact that if you shine sunlight on quartz or certain chemicals, this causes them to vibrate. It is these vibrations that then help us. Therefore, sunlight is the only scientific method for charging. Moonlight on a scientific level is not powerful enough to charge crystals vibrationally, so this is a personal choice. However, I believe the Moon has powers on an etheric level that science cannot explain - therefore, if you wish to dance naked in the moonlight around a fire waving your crystals in the air (oh for half the chance LOL), then DO IT.
Super 7 is quartz based and therefore needs sunlight in order to vibrate - it is self-cleansing in that it does not retain negativity, but not self-charging. If you are afraid of stones fading, only pop them in direct sunlight for a few hours and then remove them again. Moldavite is a different kettle of fish as it is not from this planet. Have experimented with it for years - cleanse it with water (as its lumpy so can get physically dirty). For charging, it doesn't seem to react much to sunlight or moonlight, but if you pop it out overnight when there is a meteor shower (Perseids or Leonids), watch out the next morning as it may just take your head off! It seems to 'crawl' with energy after meteor showers. Moldavite, you will notice, also seems to turn 'off' and 'on' again for no apparent reason - am currently experimenting with this and have a hazy opinion forming that it is to do with planetary movements or again, activity out in space. Would be really interested to know if anyone else has experimented or investigated it in this way.
Much love and it is a true blessing to see so many people on here who know their stuff. Many thanks for all of your advice, it is a pleasure to learn.

Sunlight does not 'kill' amethyst or any crystal - it breaks down the chemical that is responsible for the colour of that crystal. Fluorite is one of the very few common quartz based crystals that must not be left in sunlight for too long as not only will it fade, it will also become brittle and prone to breaking (due to its internal geometric structure). Most crystals do NOT fade however and the 10 years mine have sat on the windowsill in direct sunlight and are still being used regularly are testatment to that.
Therefore, if you are worried about a crystal fading, only pop it in the sunlight for a few hours, but it MUST be charged to work and natural sunlight is the only way to do this. We have tried other forms of light from a mere lightbulb right through to UV and infrared lights - nothing works except sunlight. You are free to try these cool experiments to see for yourself.
Melody is a cool lady as is her N.American husband. Her books are now outdated as the vibrational frequency and therefore holistic properties of crystals has changed much over the last 10 years. She is working on updating her book as is Judy Hall - these women both actually work together behind the scenes and bounce off each other, so its impossible to disregard one without the other - which would be silly as both have a lot of relevant information and decades of experience with crystals that am sure none of us on this website have. As stated previously, use them as a guide and then follow your own intution and path. If you'd like to see either of them, they are appearing together at a crystal & sound conference in Glastonbury 17-19 August.
