Hi Sue,
My what an inquisitive lady you have ...... :D I'm not entirely sure what you mean by " How could the action of hormones be contra-indicated to a treatment". Is your lady taking some sort of hormone pill ??? A reflexology treatment would not interfere with hormone tablets ~ they're generally pretty strong !!! The treatment would though work to balance the clients own endocrine (hormonal) balance.
Hirsutism is excessive hair growth ~ in women this is sometimes caused by excessivelevels of testosterone in the body. A common symptom for many ladies with PCOS. I'm wondering if your lady had PCOS and is taking hormones to try and balance the system ???
The fluid balance in the body ~ again not too sure what you mean !!! Are you referring to someone who perhaps retains fluid ?? If so, again Reflexology would help by stimulating the circulation, lymphatic system, kidneys and urinary system.
Hope this helps some.

Hi meridianmoon
Yes my case study lady is a little difficult, she has had reflexology before and is proving to be difficult, I think she thinks she is helping me by asking the questions she has, the other questions were even more off the cuff.
She is on HRT and had thyroid (under active) problem & said she had previously suffered with PCOS, I really didn't know what it was, she wasn't that nice in telling me I should know too !she thinks she knows it all i feel as her daughter is a reflexologist but moved away, I wish I hadn't asked her now, she was introduced to me so next time will be wary - she is a pain !!!!
Thanks for your help - it has helped me be prepared for next time
Best wishes to you suex

Oh Sue, I do feel for you! I hope this will not affect your confidence in any way. You have not had medical training so how on earth are you supposed to know what every single medical condition is? I didn't know what PCOS was until somebody rang me who had it. We had a long chat and I got her to tell me what her symptoms were and how PCOS affected her. I then went and read up all about PCOS and know a fair bit about it now. If someone rings me and tells me they have a condition I know nothing or little about, I get them to tell me as much as they can about it from their perspective, as you will often find someone who has a condition knows more about it than their GP! It's OK to admit that you're not a world authority on things, and people will respect your honesty.
I really don't know why this lady feels she has to test you. It sounds very odd to me. I think that if she continues to probe you, you could think of a strategy. Maybe you could lend her one of your A&P books since she seems to enjoy thinking about how the body works. Perhaps she could go on a course to learn more?

I don't do reflexology but I do think it's great to have an awkward case study as it's going to happen sometime so best when you've got the 'i'm only learning line'!!! I find people expect me to know everything. Had a lady phone who has stopped smoking to ask why she was tired! I dunno! She's prob detoxing plus it's hot today so combination of the two...but I just said that I'm not a doctor so didn't want to diagnose... I think learning to admit you don't know something is a great lesson. Why should you??? You'll pick up bits and pieces along the way I'd imagine but don't feel you have to know everything!!!
Good luck with the course!:)
