reiki not mystical...?
hiya...
can someone tell me...am I right or wrong in thinking that reiki is just about holding hand positions that then just bring heat to the body or is there more to it than just heat from hand....
is it like just holding heat into a place that naturally flows from and around the body so slowing it down to take more energy into the hurt or pain or wound...etc...etc...
if this is the case then it takes away the mystical side of it and is just like tai chi....what are your views....
what I am trying to say is...if that is the case then one all has to do is put the hands on the body without being attuned...so maybe I am wrong and there is more to it than just heat...

The heat is what can be experienced as the energy shifts but is not what is actually passed to someone. During Reiki it is the actually energy that passes from the practioner to the 'client', the energy moves through and eliminates blockages and balances the bodies own natural energies helping to restore what should naturally be. This in turn creates the wellness that again should natrually be.
Reiki is a spiritual practice in that it renews your connections andis a life journey, it becomes part of your everyday life if you choose to let it.
Although I have heard of Tai Chi I do not know exactly whatit is or how it works but would be interested if you have time to write a bit about it.

I do not know much about tai chi just that they wave or move their arms to certain movements to get chi flowing or balanced....
so would you say a non attuned person to reiki if they put their hands on say the throat chakra or the reiki positions that because they are not attuned it would only just be body heat and no healing....
I have been attuned to reiki 1 by post but feel the need to go and actually be attuned in person which is what I will do when I find my reiki master...I feel that though I had a distant attunement that the reiki energy is not there...yes my hands get hot but I sense in some way I am not properly connected...maybe just thinking this stops my connection....
so in reiki 1 can you feel more than heat...this is what I am trying to ask really....is it more than body heat....

I would not say that a non attuned person could use Reiki but it does not mean they could not do healing just by other means such as the spiritual healing mentioned by Paul and with healing is very often the heat that you mention.
I would say that really being attuned in person would be a good idea, especially if you also feel this way, that way you will be able to find a Reiki Master who can support you and will be there for you so that you can ask the kind of questions that you seek answers to now. They would also be able to help to build your confidence in using Reiki. Your distant attunement may well have worked perfectly and thinking wont affect your connection, just your ability to concentrate to really feel the flow of energy (which I had to work at after Reiki I).
Why not see if you can find a Reiki share in your area so that you can get some in person guidance ?

Reiki is about chanelling universal energy to a person so that their body mayuse that energy to heal themselves. It is not just heat from the hands as sometimes it can feel more intense than that or may feel like tingling or cold etc.
Also, Tai Chi is more than just waving hands about. As a form of exercise (rather than the martial art aspect of it), it helps with posture and balance and assists in building up the natural Chi (Qi orKi) energy of the body. By shifting the Chi about the body this assists in balance and grounding (as necessary when doing martial arts) but also this Chi energy may be used for healing purposes by placing of hands and moving the Chi energy through the hands to the recipient.

Hi Energylz
Thanks for the explaination of Tai Chi, I didnt realise it was actually a martial art, my daughter is always talking about wanting to learn it so I may just have to go along to a class and check it out. I did figure there was more than just the arm waving ;)

Most Tai Chi classes are taught for the purposes of relaxation, posture etc. and not as a martial art. You'll actually find it harder to locate classes that do teach it as a martial art in fact.
The movements used in the exercises all come from the martial art and any good teacher will be able to explain what each movement is used for in terms of self-defence etc. but all in all, as an exercise it's very graceful and grounding.
It was the energy of Tai Chi that I discovered first and this led me into the realms of Reiki. Prior to this I had thought all this hands on healing stuff was a load of bunkum, but once I got to experience it for myself I suddently realised how wrong I had been.

Hello The Starz,
To try to share my perspective……
I haven’t taken any reiki courses.
I place hands intuitively and allow healing for others.
And it is more than the hands getting hot.
It is more than heat.
It is allowing healing energy to flow through you for another.
It is an unique position to be in.
Special for you and special for the receiver,
And both of you can receive healing at the same time.
I remember the first time that this happened.
I paused, looked at my friend and said; was that you or was it me?
And we realised that it was both of us receiving healing at the same time,
even though one of us was in the position of healer and the other was in the position of receiver.
I think that that is totally amazing.
So although I may assume the position of healer,
I am not really, I am an allower.
This wasn’t achieved in a weekend.
It was achieved by self healing over a period of time.
And I didn’t initially self heal to be able to allow healing for others.
I self healed cos I needed to, for me.
The healing for others is just part of it.
So, I am just sharing that for me, self healing is the key.
The Starz, I wish you well.
