Reiki and...?

Hi.
Can anyone recommend a therapy that works well with Reiki? I will shortly become a Reiki practitioner and I'dlike to offer my clients some alternative treatments. There seems to be so many courses out there and treatments, I don't know which one to start with...Also what in your experience, are the most 'popular' treatments people tend to go for?
Thanks for replying.

Now that's a tricky question. [&:]
It comes down to market trends. At the minute, in my locale, from what I hear, a lot of people like massage, Indian Head Massage and the various Beauty treatments, but it does change all the time and depending on whereabouts you are. The past couple of years has seen an influx of people "jumping on the bandwagon" to do therapies of all sorts, Reiki, Massage, IHM, Nail technicians, Beauty Therapists etc. and the local Colleges have started cashing in on that by offering courses in the various ones. Unfortuntely that means there's an influx and outflux of people getting into the field and suddenly finding that there's a lot of other local competition out there.
I think the more skills you have under your belt the more clients you will be able to get, i.e. a few clients for each discipline, whereas if you focus on just one or two therapies it will be harder to get clients unless you are very good at what you do and very good at marketing yourself.
Whatever you choose to do, I wish you luck.

Hi,
I usually use some crystals with Ma'at Sekhem (Egyptian Reiki) & often Magnified Healing too. They all work well together, as well as by themselves.

Hi SharonC, the answer to this depends on what you are aiming to do with it.
There are probably 2 main options which would impact on this decision, as Giles mentioned.
1) Is to stick to reiki, practice and study it well and become a specialist in this field.
2) Is to offer other treatments and potentially not 'master' them all but be competent enough to be able to practice them effectively.
Both have their merits and from a personal point of view I have stayed with reiki and decided to be a specialist in this field. My personal opinion is that many people have jumped on the alternative therapy bandwagon and as a result there are many practitioners who are not really that clued up on the treatments they are providing and see it as more of an 'easy' business. On the other hand, you have people who are highly skilled in their chosen therapy and generally provide a higher standard of service to the client as a result. Such people quickly get a good reputation as being the 'real deal'.
If you decide to offer more than one therapy I would recommend something like a massage course or another real therapy. I would stay away from going into the beauty therapies as if you want to be taken seriously in your field, considering that reiki is a spiritual system, then to delve into the superficial treatments is not going to do your reputation any good and you will mainly attract a certain market type.
I have to disagree with Giles that you have to be good at marketing yourself if you are concentrating on one or two therapies because if you are good at what you do and are genuine about your therapy then you will always get recommendations from your clients. Any literature you use to market yourself will reflect how good you are at what you do and distinguish you from everyone else. My partner and I have only ever used homemade leaflets and placed them in 3 or 4 places and we have had a lot of clients from this and built up our reputation by word of mouth.
Most people are very fickle in what they choose as a therapy and always follow the hot therapy of the moment, whether it is the correct therapy for them or not. Choose something basic and beneficial, like massage or nutrition, and you won't go far wrong if you choose to offer another therapy. These things outlast the trendy therapies.
If you want some personal advice then PM me and I will be happy to chat.

Hi Sharon,
Do you plan on completely supporting yourself with your Reiki therapy?
I have found the Massage therapy is probably one of the best complements to reiki, if you are looking for a financial support base. Currently there are many Reiki Masters and only a small percentage actually make a living on just Reiki, many that do also are very good at marketing. There are also some Reiki Masters that are very good at just Reiki and do well through word of mouth, but to honest I personally know very few, I know about 3 well know Reiki authors and they all struggle financially and they are all very well known and very good teachers. Generally speaking from most of the Reiki Master I know, they do not financially do well just doing sessions, but through teaching they do manage financially. It seems that the majority of people would rather become a Master teacher than do sessions.
Most people are comfortable with Massage and by doing massage you will also have the opportunity to really get to know the human body; all of it not just the energy field. What I did to introduce people into energy work was to do a 45 minute massage followed by 15 minutes of energy work, then the ones that would respond well to the energy I would recommend a full session.
This worked quite well for me and other that I have recommend this path to, so it is something I can recommend to others who are interested in starting a Heath business. I would like to add that I did very little advertisement, most everything was word of mouth. If I had done more advertising the business would have grown even more. The one thing I do want to say about Massage it can be a short lived profession. It does take more energy to do massage than energy healing, it can be a strain physically, most therapist do not realize this until after they stop massaging. If you figure you need to have about 4-5 massages daily that is lots of hard work. Once you get a mix of only about 2-3 Massages it does make it easier.
Now that I have said all that, my next recommendation would be further down the line for you, but that is if you are working off solely your own income it may be difficult to support yourself. Many of the most successful energy workers work with others or a partner, this partnership will work out best for you if you have people working for you.
This may throw you into more of a management situation, but for the most part you will have to do it for yourself anyway. Once you get your practice moving then bring a partner in to work with that way it help out with your advertising costs and room rental. For me my wife has been my best partner, so if you are not married keep your heart open : ). My wife is really the one with business sense : ). She has a massage and energy business and we have about 9 people working with the clinic, since she is pregnant now and cannot do much massage, but we still have a good income. I also do well with the class I teach.
[size=3][font="times new roman"]The other suggestion I would recommend for energy healing are the different forms of Hypnotherapy, this includes past life therapy, EFT and NLP. All of these are very good on their own, but when you add in some extra energy like Reiki, the results are phenomenal! Many Reiki practioners are great channels, but they have very limited skills in actually helping support an emotional healing process

Big Thank you to everybody who spent time in replying to my question.
I am very grateful and am considering my options; another alternative route for me could be Counselling (athough I don't know if anyone else has any experience with this and Reiki, it's something I've always been interestedin). After a Reiki heal, I always feel like the person really begins to open up more, and this may be handy for the emotional releases I'm sure will occur when I begin topractice. Thanks once again for all the feedback.

Hi Sharon,
Yes, you certainly could incorporate Reiki and councelling. I tend to see the EFT/FREEWAY-CER that I do as a sort of councelling; although the techniques are to assist the person in ridding themselves of the negative emotions, the clients usually tend to do a lot of talking about their issues, and I'm a good listener. A lot of clients do like to finish off the session with a short Reiki treatement to close off the issues for good and balance their energy ready to carry on with the day/evening.

Sharon,
Counseling will help out considerably, just be sure that the type of counseling you choose fits
The direction you want to go. The reason I recommended Hypnotherapy is because there are branches of it that deal with emotional release more specifically. Some of the best healings I have seen have been directly connected to the emotional release, also after a certain amount of clearing a very beautiful Initiation can occur. When a person learns to open their heart it is really the most beautiful experience you can ever imagine, unfortunately standard counseling will not cover this in it’s course syllabus : ) . I do know an accredited school in Boulder Colorado USA that has a certified program that is based on Tibetan Buddhism, Naropa Institute. I studied with a man Named David Quigley he founded Alchemical Hypnotherapy, the course covered , Inner child healing, Past life regression and most aspects of Emotional release. Fantastic course! There is a good chance there is a course similar in the UK. If you are feeling drawn in this direction I would strongly recommend taking several session first. Many people just sign up for a teachers course before they do any sessions.
Here is a list I would recommend
Re-birthing (conscious Breath work) Just simpleBreathwork can be an amazing healing experience.
Inner Child Healing
Past life regression
Once you experience each of these, then go back and work with Reiki, you may be in for quite a surprise.

Hi Sharon,
I'm a Reiki Master and teach both Counselling, Alchemical Hypnotherapy, EFT and EmoTrance. I trained with David Quigley, who as Patrick mentions founded Alchemical Hypnotherapy. I run an accredited Hypnotherapy Training incorporating counselling skills, bodywork, energy psychology, somatic healing. I am also a Trainer for the AMT and teach both EFT and EmoTrance. I have to say that EmoTrance is a great addition to any bodywork therapists tool box, and works seamlessly with Reiki, providing opportunity for emotional release and transformation at cellular level.
The professional training will give you confidence in facilitating your client healing.
Patrick nice to see you here. Have heard much about from David and Graham :O)
Love Kim
