Question about drawing SeiHeiKi

I have been giving reiki more these days and when i go to do the mental symbol of Sei Hei Ki the middle part is so hard to draw i always wonder if im doing it right. i mean drawing it invisibly in the air is not easy and then where the middle part is a bent line its hard to know if im ever drawing it correctly for sure even with a book and illustration. anyone else have this problem? is there an easier way to do it or is it okay if its not perfectly precise? saying it is good too right?

Answers:

I might get flamed by traditionalists for saying this, but it doesn't matter if it's drawn right or not. You'll find that people taught by different teachers may in fact teach slightly different symbols anyway - let's face it, none of us actually can write Japanese so it's not going to be precise. Key to any symbol is quite simple - intention, if the intention is pure, the energy will flow.

Answers:

Thanks Gussie! yes Japanese is not easy to draw at all..intent does sound like it would go farther if all else fails.

Answers:

Many don't even draw the symbol, they merely visualise it, or say the words to themselves in their heads. Others might simply transmit the healing powr of the symbol to their recipient. Intent is hugely powerful and your intuition will in time guide you in the most appropriate way.
There is a discussion here called are reiki symbols really necessary, which you might find interesting, there are other discussions about this if you use the search facility on the forum, but I think this is probably the most appropriate.

Answers:

Yep intent is everything!

IMO, this old saying applies as much to Reiki as to anything else:
"If a things worth doing its worth doing properly"

Learning how to draw the symbols is a basic sign of commitment on the student's part - it shows a willingness to make an effort to learn...
It is also a useful exercise in Mindfulness: focussing the attention
Then there is a matter of showing respect, and gratitude:
- taking the time to learn (and it really doesn't take that long) the correct form of the symbols is one of the many ways in which we honour the Gift that is Reiki.

but the SHK symbol isn't a Japanese word/character, it's a stylisation of a Sanscrit character: hrih

Answers:

Simple way to find out if you are drawing your symbols 'correctly'... draw them, then hold the paper between your hands, focus on them and feel if the energy is right. If something is wrong (like not cupping the outside line in SHK far enough around), then you will feel this and can then correct it.
My master and I experimented with this and found that yes, different ways of drawing them did affect the energy flow in the symbols themselves.
