lump in neck

Hey all,
I recently discovered a lump in my neck, and to be honest, its scaring the hell outta me. Its under my jaw, just below my ear. Its mobile, and doesn't hurt to touch. no ear ache, no sinus blockage, my neck feels fine, my throat is ok..but..
I've looked up possible causes on some health websites, and of course, everything is fatal [>:] soooooooo...I guess I'm kinda looking for some reassurance that its probably nothing.
Edit: I just recently had two bottom wisdom teeth removed (was on some medication and was given an anesthetic for the removal) as well as kidney stones a few months back.
Cheers

Tricky one to give an opinion on without getting ones mits on it!
There are various possibilities. Under & along the lower jaw are the submandibular lymph nodes, a saliva glan each side, etc.
These lymph nodes can get congested from an oral/tooth problem that you may not be aware of. I have just have a rummage in my own neck to find that the salivary glang on one side is much larger than the other. :)
There has been a thread on this very subject, so try a Search.
Do I take it that it's on one side & not the other? [sm=scratchchin.gif]
Please bear in mind that your worst fear is actually very rare, so don't panic. Do get it checked out though - just in case. ;)

Hello, I had the same lump under my right jaw also. I had it checked out and was removed, The doctor called it a parotid tumor. I will tell you I was scared as well. I went through the surgery and it was a success the tumor was benign

There are many possibilities for the reason for the lump - may I ask what the doctor thinks it is?
How long have you had it?

This is so weird. I just posted in healing and prayers for something similar. I think mine is my salivary gland, it feels similar to when I had the mumps. Shocky kind of sharp pains when touched. No "lump", and if it is swollen, I can't see it. It kind of aches constantly and "isn't right".
Nothx & Anahata's posts were from 2004 -- I wonder what it turned out to be?

Here's mine from the other forum:
You may or may not know I have Sjogren's which is an autoimmune disease that destroys the moisture producing glands in one's body. Much like Lupus, it can have other serious effects too.
Apparantly I'm going through an active stage of this disease. If you've had mumps, you'll know where I mean when I explain this next bit. Right under my jaw, forward of my ear it hurts. If I touch that area, like massaging, it sends shock-like pain. I think it's a salivary gland under attack. Anyhow, I don't want to go to the doctor. I am so sick of doctors.
Please, send healing, prayers, kind thoughts. What can I do for this? It almost feels like my ear, sinus, glands are all affected. Thanks, J

It could be a submandibular lymph node, but could also be a stone stuck in the salivary duct, or the former due to the latter.
So you may not like this, but I advise you see your doc as it could turn nasty. [:o]
If you're not impressed with your family doc, then suggest seeing a DO - Doctor of Osteopathy.
There's a NAET practioner in the US having some success withpeople with autoimmune conditions and I've had myself.
There's a case study below. Although it's on someone with idiopathic thombocytopenic purpura - the principle remains the same. I've had some success with Hashimoto's - the autoimmune type of underactive thyroid, so time will tell, but I wouldn't wait for the evidence, as these cases don't come along that often. So there's unlikely to be any large quantitative double blind (likely not possible with NAET) studies soon.

oh my Andrew, a stone stuck in there???? honestly. All right, I'll go tomorrow. What do you mean it could turn nasty???[:o] And what would the treatment be?
Couldn't it just be mumps?

Answers:

Sorry, but yes, it's not that uncommon, so is a possibility.
I just mean that if left, then it could get infected, which isn't so common. So please get it checked out, but not an emergency.
Andrew.

Thanks Andrew [&:]I went and read up on it last night. I didn't sleep much after that information... I'm about to get dressed and go sit at the walk-in clinic. Yippee. I just don't know if I can have a fine wire put up a salivary gland and have them dig around for a stone [:o]. My gosh it's a horror. But apparantly they don't spontaneously pass very often so I have no choice.
Wish me luck --

OUch - sounds a bit nasty - if that wasn;t for you , you could look at a mind / body approach to discover what the lumps all about ;)

Oh CH -- I've been thinking and concentrating on that stinking stone to be gone/disinterated/passed. It is very painful and I have a fever so it is hard to do this healing kind of thing on myself. Annie it isn't quite determined yet sweetie and Moonflower, it is my absolute favorite hug -- thank you. Here's what I know so far (also posted in healing and prayers so you don't have to read it twice).

I have just gotten back from the 2nd doctor. First was the walk in clinic where he said I had a fever therefore an infection and prescribed antibiotics (you know how I love to take those... not at all). I haven't been able to swallow one quite yet.
The second was a dentist who is sending me to an oral surgeon in a couple of hours time. He called them special for meand got me in as an emergency :(. I am so petrified of dentists. What they think it is, is either a salivary stone (Andrew was correct in his diagnosis) or a tumor which would require surgery of course. There apparantly is a special kind of xray they can do to image if it is a stone.
If it is a stone they try to fish it out through the duct within my mouth with a thin wire [:o]OMG, I so don't want to go through this. I was bawling this morning and truly didn't sleep last night for fear of this. I'd read up on it and other diseases of the salivary glands. Not to bright of me...
So, anything you want to send my way that will give me strength, courage, and the ability to cope is much appreciated.
I'll let you know how it goes -- thanks again, J

If it is a stone it will be quite small, its amazing how much room all the attendent blockage it causes takes up, but you shall need the antibios.
I had a stone in my jaw, on the chin area many years ago, and it felt enormous but was tiny and very very painful while it was there.
I shall be doing my Ritual soon and send Healing in advance of that.
Brightest Blessings

Good luck Chuck - sure you'll be fine!
Suggest using any anaesthetic given to best advantage and use it as an excuse to heartly express some expletives.
Sometimes we need to take antibiotics. I'm happier happier to take them nowadays, as I believe I can always sort out any adverse effects with NAET.
And. ;)

Answers:

Oh Andrew, if only you were here! Is this NAET something I can do on my own? If only I was there... whatever. I haven't found anyone in this area who practices the things that I read about in HP. And we aren't rich people or anything so I can't go flying across the country for treatments. I'll probably get fired for being out so much from work as it is. I took a day off, went to a holistic/homeopatic guy about 3 weeks ago who is located 2 and 1/2 hours away, spent thousands of dollars and that's about as much as we can do at this point. I'm waiting for all of the "prescriptions" to arrive but he said not to take them while sick.
It seems to me I was led to HP, but I haven't found her counterpart or a community like it in the US.
The last doc thinks it's mumps by the way...he couldn't see a stone, I still have clear saliva (not infected) from that side, although it's a decreased amount. So I'm using heat, advil, lemon drops (to stimulate saliva flow), and all of the Reiki, prayers, candles and positive uplifting healing thoughts I can get from people in hopes this thing resolves.
