Echinacea Doesn't work!

Did anybody see the article in the Daily Mail (urgh) today? Apparently Echinacea does not work. They did a study with a placebo and the people on Echinacea didn't work.[&:] Have always found it does myself if taken straight away.

I agree, it is total B******s. It was on the table and I couldn't resist a quick flick to remind myself how awful it is. I can tell you one thing, there will always be a centre page spread of six women in their bra and knickers who are comparing their cellulite, bra sizes, how young they look, guess how many children they have had, how old they are etc etc.
I don't do it every day, PROMISE!!!!! Caught out![&:]

Hi,
I find it works, if I am run down and feel a cold coming on I take Echinacea and I do not get sick.

Well, it works for me too, also a friend who's slowly coming round to alternatives.
Don't read Daily Mail any more, full of nonsense.

Answers:

Anyone have an on-line link for it?
Wonder who funded & conducted it?
And.

Answers:

This paper doesn't seem to have anything good or constructive to say about anyone or anything, how sad for its readership.

Answers:

Yes but it has a readership. Who are they? Why are they cluttering up our planet? Echinacea does work. I bet they used the cheapest/least effective brand in order to support their prejudice. [sm=banghead.gif]

Candie,
How on earth could they tell it didn't work. Everyone is individual with differing immune systems, some stronger and more efficient than others.
Echinacea is meant to improve and strengthen the immune system so one person may catch a cold virus going around and have it for 7 days and 2 other people who have been taking Echinacea regularly one may have only a mild version of the cold for 5 days and the other may have the strength in the immune system to fight it off altogether.
I do think that Echinacea should be taken regularly so it is having an ongoing effect on the immune system, once or twice a week, preferably in liquid form only for 6 months then leave out for 3 months and start over again.
Of course the first sign of any illness up the dose to the max( i take 21 drops in water) and take every day for a week. It works wonders taken along with a high dose vit C during illness.
The paper has the right to print its opinion but we all know here on HP that their "bum is out the window" as my old dad would say.

I advise clients to take Echinacea for only 6 weeks and then let the body do its own work. Taking herbs is similar to taking steroids, after a while the body becomes too used to them and won't work on its own.
Remarkably a client who suffered bronchitis every winter for years did not have a single attack last year after taking Echinacea, so it does work for a lot of people.

Answers:

Definitely! Echinacea shouldn't be taken for prolonged periods, otherwise it actually depresses the immune system !
I also suggest a similar 'on' 'off' way of taking it if required, but also look at deeper treatment to make sure the immune system starts to work properly by itself.

These newspapers love to print anything negative, never anything positive. Its driving me to distraction.
Echinacea definitely works. My Mum used to be really ill with pneumonia every christmas but since taking Echinacea from October to February she hasnt had anything more than a bit of a cold. (The reflexology also helps, a great immune system booster).

On a more serious note, the Daily Mail, is a Right wing Nazi paper that discredits anything of any positive nature or worth. Its your Deerhunteing, golf playing, whisky drinking child hating fearful, right wing, Auntie lucifer ****for the fearful and pessimistic. Unlike the Sport that is Witty funny, and loved by baboons of low mentality, and redneck incestual values, and as SEX, is a three letter word, its easy to spell.
Dare i ad , theres nothing wrong with Sex, just the total depiction of the beautiful universe of woman degraded to a Sexmachine. OK Im a hypocrite, I'll get me coat[&:].

Answers:

Dear Andrew,
Whilst I regularly read the Daily Mail, I am neither a 'Right-wing Nazi', or someone who discredits nature or its worth. Nor am I fearful or pessimistic, just because I like reading this paper. This is unfounded and unwarranted against millions of DM readers, who are balanced in their views.
I have had to edit part of your post above, because it contained swear words, which are unacceptable on the boards.
Love,
Patsy.

Hi Candie,
I haven't taken echinacea myself, but it is about finding what suits you. What may not work for one person, may work wonders for another.
