Full Service
I think i need a full service to pass my next m.o.t. lol
My body is tired, I don't want to go into my past too much, just want to explain what i mean, i had um a difficult childhood you could say.. which resulted when i was 15 into me running away, i was a missing person for 10 years... homeless for most of those, suffering from severe depression/anxiety etc... suicidal.. blah blah.. but anyway dont want to go into all that, the long and the short of it is 1 simple tablet a day.. and well i'm human again.. been on them 6 months now.. my life has become my life again. I now work.. drive ... have a gf.. have many many friends.. have a beautiful home.. so hard to explain.. how life has changed so much in 6 months
However many years of sleeping on hard concrete, maybe only actually sleeping 1ce or 2ce a week.. not eating properly for many years .. and a whole multitude of other sins on my body.. it is extememly warn out... i'm 25, look more like late 30's my skin is tired... my muscles are tired... my bones r tired...
I currently have a very good diet... lots n lost of fresh fruit n veg... skinned chicken, fish .. and generally all good foods, I am still a smoker but i've cut down to 5 a day.. altho i really do want to quit smoking,... i wanna take 1 step at a time... theres still a lotta other things i need to deal with before i change something that changes how i feel.. like what 10 years of being a hermit does to ur mind
I just want advice on... giving my body some love and attention that it really does need,
main problems i suppose are, general.. wear n tear.. but i think i have the body of a 40 yo.. in worn out terms.. rather than that of a 25 yo..
i get a lotta joint problems.. my knees if i bend.. crack badly.. when they hit the point they crack.. i cant support my weight, altho my legs r very strong the knees just wont seem to allow it... right hand beomes very stiff, like i could hold a very heavy weight... but i cant turn a door handle sometimes, back seems to ache all the way down my spine (this is due a lot to bad posture... i would reallly realy love any advice on how i might straighten my posture)... and occasionaly like spasms in the lower back if im bending slightly.. ie washing up or ironing
i'm nearly bald.. n what is left is grey.. dunno if that was even worth mentioning lol
still have a lot of sleep problems, i find it very veru hard to get to sleep, I have a lot of dreams.. not nigtmares.. but dreams where i am uncomfortable.. i am trying to sort my sleep pattern out.. but generally b4 now in life, i wouldnt sleep.. until i pass out.. cos then i dont dream.. or remember them anyway. other than advice on straighting my posture which i would really like.. im kinda just hoping people might be able to give me advie on reminding my body that it is 25 and not 40 and hopefully start repairing some of the damage i have caused to it over so many years of neglect..
also i was on anti-biotics for long while .. my teeth are generally the only part of me i looked after... but i've ben smoking since i was 11... 14 years now.. and altho my teeth are actually in very good condition.. not 1 filling needed after having not been to dentist for 12 years, i have a stain on 1 tooth where i always have the cigarette in the same position. sometimes i leave the tootbrush polishing that area alone for like 5 mins at a time.. but its not going.. any ideas on how i might slowly remove it without paying for a polish?
any general tips on how i might help my body recover would be great... oh and i have like i dunno... a sharp pain in my left shoulder a lot.. where i used to carry a heavy bag, day in day out, if i do any lifting etc.. i can feel a huge knot there and if i stretch n stuff i can hear it.. kind of crunching
any advice appreciated.. its kind of hard admitting that i was so weak for so long.. so pls dont be too judgemental,

Hey Dan,
You sound like a real toughie to me, well done for getting it all together so well!
Short-term it sounds like your body could use some extra raw materials to help it mend itself. I know it means going to the chemist's, but if you can face it try buying a multivitamin with minerals. (The minerals are maybe more important to you than to most people of your age as you probably did without for a while.)
Also try to reduce the acidity of your body to aid tissue repair and re-formation. This means avoiding or cutting down on acid-creating foods (every little helps, don't get fanatical). This means fried food, coffee and alcohol, white sugar, white bread and cakes, red meat and animal fats. Less salt is better too.
Try instead to eat more alkali-forming foods: loads of veg and salads, fruit (go easy on citrus tho'), white cheese (feta, halloumi, cottage cheese etc) instead of yellow cheese; fish, especially oily fish for your knees (I love tinned mackerel or sardine fillets on oatcakes as a snack); wholemeal bread and brown rice; spuds with their skins on. Your instinct (as opposed to your craving) will probably tell you what your body wants after a while and you won't need to think about rules.
Many people still swear by cod liver oil for joints as well as for fending off colds etc. Make your own mind up - you can only take so many supplements at once!
Finally there are a lot of healers, massage people and therapists of many kinds here on HP. Many are happy to give some kind of therapy for free or to have a person to practice on for their next qualification. (I'm a healer training to qualify as a holistic massage therapist so I need 100 hours of practice as well as my case studies. If you're in London you're more than welcome to some.) Different therapies work different ways, but massage for instance is a brilliant way to help your body shift toxins from sluggish parts of the body and get fresh blood to cells and muscles that haven't seen much in years. For someone like you it should do a lot of good. (I've got some good posture exercises which might help your back and get you more flexible b.t.w.)
I'm sure you'll get more good advice on here, I hope some of it 'feels' right to you. And get cooking those fresh veggies - your girlfriend will be dead impressed!
Good luck and enjoy your regeneration!

My advice would be to speak to your GP. Explain what you have gone through (if he/she doesn't know already) and ask them to refer to you a nutritionist (to make sure that years of neglect have not caused problems that may need additional help). Also mention your joint problems. It sounds as though you MAY have arthritis.
The Alexander Technique is supposed to be VERY good for posture problems. I'm sure you could search the net for practitioners near you.
As for the dentist, you could spend a fortune in the chemist buying toothpastes that say they will remove stains but the hygenist and your dental surgery can remove simple stains in seconds much more effectively.
Good luck!

My suggestion is that you see an osteopath & ask for a full service, so that they'll treat all the problem joints & muscles, and ask them what exercises you can do to maintain yourself. [&:]
Once you're all loosened off, then yes Alexander technique is excellent for improving & maintain the perfect posture. It does require a lot of dedication initially. Yoga is another option & classes are usually only a few quid, but having osteopathic treatment first will save you months of work improving mobility by Yoga alone. And there's the possibility of just making the already mobile joints more mobile & not actually releasing the stiff & 'locked' joints. For the record - I've treated several yoga teachers. [&:]
On the nutritional front - I guess that it's largely minerals, more then vitamins that you need to get into your system. A multimineral & some extra organic suphur for your joints. The most likely down side of this as a prescription would be the range juice, as an acidic fruit. If you are sensitive to these & some of the other foods that BigVoice mentions, then you may prone to having an acidic internal environment associated with those that are prone to allergy & sensitivity. So worth taking a look on the Allergy Forum under ailments, as they can commonly cause joint problems. [:@]
I wouldn't assume that you have problems with food at this stage & go with multiminerals & extra suphur for a few months, then re-asses.
For general wellbeing (incl. head stufff), then healing ( as Candie suggests) &/or meditation, which is effectively self healing. There's a link to British Meditation Society in my profile, if you need a contact on that one. ;)

Greyness is said to a be due to lack of a certian mineral - I think it's tin, although could be copper, but a mutimineral should cover it.

So it may be in some cases that thinning hair is a sign of being too darn manly, and the only thing is to crop it.
Not a clue what mineral would kick those melanocytes in the pants, you're very clever. If you find out tell us, I might try taking some too. And chicken cartilege - eugh, only for the brave!

It took me a long time to admit to myself that i need help.. my gf amazes me.. and scares me.. i have told her so much about myself, that i've never told anyone in my life... i dont know how she can love me.. but she's just everything to me..
i need to get counselling.. i've got an appointment with my GP on monday.. there's a lot i need to tell him.. because i was missing for so long and stuff.. they are having trouble finding my medical records, and i get scared... that if i try and start dealing with it.. if i open up.. that it will go back down that road again.. because i hate thinking about my past.. things that have happened to me.. i just block them out.. but i know that doesnt help.. all i have ever told my doctor is im depressed and have anxiety. but i dont know what to say... hi im daniel i need help.. it was hard enough admitting that to myself let alone other people..i wouldnt know where to start i know the tablets (seroxatt) are controlling the depression... but the problems are still there the reason for that depression will always be there.. and i need to learn how to try and deal with it.. anyway im going to tell him i need help.. that i cant do it on my own.. because well i do...i worry a lot about what people will think.. i cant understand how my girlfriend is still on the scene.. i worry sometimes no matter how much she tells me she loves me. that she is with me because she knows how life has been for me... and doesnt want to hurt me..

She loves you Mate, believe it. Tell yourself everyday that she does and eventually you will believe it in your heart. (Affirmations and all that?) Take each day as it comes and don't try to deal with too many things at once. You have got the rest of your life to work it all out, so take it easy eh?
Regards telling the doctor, why not simply say that you lived rough for all those years because of your upbringing, that you are getting yourself sorted out but your health has suffered because of it. There is nothing to be ashamed of and I am sure that any compassionate doctor will do all they can to help you.
Hope you enjoyed your sleep, you will get lots of replies and good advice here.

Re. Your GP visit - Some medical records are best lost & mine would be a prime example. :D
Prioritise on the most important issues & not the least embarrasing ones. ;)
GP's in general don't like lists, so commit to memory the most important ones & if need be & make further appointments if need be. ;)
GP's have on average 8 mins per consultation, so if you've got someone in front of you with a list of problems, then you may consider that they are depressed. [>:]
Ask your GP if it's okay to book a double appointment as there's lots of other stuff. This is likely to go down better than insisting to the receptionist, as their priorities are to maximise the doctors time - if you catch my drift. :D
Counselling isn't available on the NHS in all areas & neither is osteopathy, come to that, but do ask. You may just strike lucky. :)
If possible avoid going down the route of Sleeping Tablets & Antidepressants. At the end of the day you'll only have to come off them & we'll do all we can to suggest other effective approaches and support you as best we can. [sm=grouphug.gif]

ty all again for your many replies, quite a lot to get my head round here..
first of all a few people askd where im based.. i'm in east london.
I took some of your advice this morning big and went out and bought some multivitamins with minerals, seems to have pretty much everything in it, altho i bought some magnesium seperately as it only seemed to have 10% rda in.. and i was reading the tub and it said magnesium is sometimes known as the anti-stress mineral, sounds just what i need lol.. is it ok to take both at once? also my mother bought me some gingko biloba pills.. what on earth is this.. and what on earth does it do? lol..
generally my diet is dang good now, pretty much everything big said.. except i do eat yellow cheese now and again.. altho i love cottage cheese, so that wouldnt be to hard to cut out.. i never add salt to food.. with the exception of chips which i rarely eat. fish.. i eat quite a lot of tuna.. is this as effective as mackeral ?
on healing.. to be honest i know very little and understand even less of what it is about.. altho i would be interested in finding out more..for 2 reasons... anything that has a slight chance at helping me, i really want to try it.. because i really want to turn my life around now.. and secondly my mother has mentioned healing to me a few times.. she fairly regularly gets umm reiki(sp?*) healing and swears by it, my mother is the person that gave me the want to get better, after not seeing her for 10 years.. and seeing her now.. she is a changed person. she had severe depression. a couple of breakdowns violent husbands etc.. and to see her now she is such a happy person.. not the same at all, she's a real spur for me to get what i want.. seeing how she has dealth with her life and is now enjoying it.
Lyssa, i have been worried about arthritis.. but as you say it's a big MAY, so i wont jump to conclusions.. and im not in any great pain.. so i will ask the doctor on this.. but my next appointment is really just to talk about my depression and things for him to asses whether i should be put forward for counselling.
I will do a search on the alexander technique as you and a few others mentioned this.. hopefully it'll be just what im looking for.
Anahata, maybe i will save for an osteopath, but they're not available on the nhs round here, and to be honest.. altho i was a missing person for 10 years.. there were brief periods where i wasnt on the streets.. in these periods i got quite heavily into debt.. well not hugely.. but quite a lot when ur on minimum wage ( problem with leaving home before schools finished is 0 qualifications and 10 years no work history doesnt help in finding a great job) and im curently pying off debts that are 5+ years old.. thx for the advice, but i dont think i will be able to take this up for a while :-), yoga sounds very interesting as there are a few cheap/free things going on i will check into. Not sure where i can find sulphur. closest thing i've seen so far is something in boots.. some kinda homeopathic stuff, this isnt organic .. cant remember what its called exactly.. the 6th centisimal homeopathic element of sulphur..or simular? is that the same stuff? chicken cartlidge just scares me lol, not sure what msm is?
sorry for another huge post.. hope someone managed to stay awake until the end.. i had to go to the GP just now, i decided just to say whats happened in my life.. i dont feel down at the moment.. and well it was surprisingly easy.. the sky didnt fall down on my head.. and he didnt treat me like some alien being.. it seems so damn hard asking for help.. i'm almost dissapointed it was so easy lol.. and counselling has been arranged a.s.a.p
i explained the joint problems.. and he says it sounds very much like rumatoid arthritis.. its kind of cold today (boiling hot for 10 minutes, sun goes behind a cloud it gets freezing cold and windy) .. and my knuckles go really purple in the cold.. he took a look and felt the movement. said i possibly have reumatoid arthritis ( total guess at spelling),

Hi again Dan. You're posts don't send me to sleep, and I doubt they do others either. It's great to hear from you again and hear of your progress.
It sounds as though the doctor visit went well, really pleased for you.
As for osteopaths, remember some will do concessionary rates (Andrew does) so give them a call and see what they can do, and some do do NHS work (Andrew did that too) so ask your doc about that too.
Hopefully somebody from your area (a nice kind soul as HP'ers can be) will come forward to offer you help, I would glady if you were in our area.
You don't need to know anything about healing really. Just have an open mind, and as you say, your mum is a good example. Reiki is healing, same kinda thing really. I know you can get both of them free of charge so pursue that for sure.

Hi Dan,
I can sympathise with your post as I’ve had similar circumstances in many ways at one stage of my life. Well done for finding the strength to climb outta that hole and well done for not sounding off like so many other people do and attributing all your difficulties as the product of somebody else’s actions. Everything for a reason eh?
I’m not sure if I missed it and that you’ve already said it in one of your posts, but which tabs are you on? They may have something to do with the way your body feels?!
You’ve had some great advice on here and there’s not much that I can add except two things; but before I do that re: spiritual healing – as Candie says you can get it for free – just find your nearest Spiritualist Church and see if you feel OK with the people there. If you do, then ask about it and you’ll find both Spiritual Healers and Reiki practioners offering treatments.
The two things that helped my body (muscles, bones, joints, flexibility) and mind (happier, more positive, clearer thinking) a lot and I really mean a lot, were swimming lengths, and Tai Chi.
You are blessed in that you have good things around you (your mum, a loving partner, a home, etc.) & who knows, one day you may be in a position to extend your hand and help someone else who needs your help and experience.
Hope everything works out pal.
Rgds,

Greyness is said to a be due to lack of a certian mineral - I think it's tin, although could be copper, but a mutimineral should cover it.

Can I just point out that some of us are SO virile and have so much testosterone, we've gone bald anyway by 25 even with a cushy well-nourished life! [sm=wave.gif] (I'm told it's actually dihydrotestosterone that collects around the follicles on the scalp and starves them of blood...) I was almost bald on top at 23.
So it may be in some cases that thinning hair is a sign of being too darn manly, and the only thing is to crop it.
Not a clue what mineral would kick those melanocytes in the pants, you're very clever. If you find out tell us, I might try taking some too. And chicken cartilege - eugh, only for the brave!

ty all, i havent really been able to read thru.. im kind of exhausted at the moment .. i really appreciate all the replies and advice, i'll have a better read through later, ty all again.. i spent so much of my life.. seperating myself from people.. altho im far from "better".. i really forgot that people can be so kind and helpful, kind of begining to realise that the world isnt such a bad place. It took me a long time to admit to myself that i need help.. my gf amazes me.. and scares me.. i have told her so much about myself, that i've never told anyone in my life... i dont know how she can love me.. but she's just everything to me..
i need to get counselling.. i've got an appointment with my GP on monday.. there's a lot i need to tell him.. because i was missing for so long and stuff.. they are having trouble finding my medical records, and i get scared... that if i try and start dealing with it.. if i open up.. that it will go back down that road again.. because i hate thinking about my past.. things that have happened to me.. i just block them out.. but i know that doesnt help.. all i have ever told my doctor is im depressed and have anxiety. but i dont know what to say... hi im daniel i need help.. it was hard enough admitting that to myself let alone other people..i wouldnt know where to start i know the tablets (seroxatt) are controlling the depression... but the problems are still there the reason for that depression will always be there.. and i need to learn how to try and deal with it.. anyway im going to tell him i need help.. that i cant do it on my own.. because well i do...i worry a lot about what people will think.. i cant understand how my girlfriend is still on the scene.. i worry sometimes no matter how much she tells me she loves me. that she is with me because she knows how life has been for me... and doesnt want to hurt me..
sorry this was supposed to be a quick reply to say i'll have a better read after i sleep some.. and i ended up going down a completely different path.. ty all i will read more thoroughly after i have slept some and post what i think.. ty all so much again

Dan, she wouldn't stay with you for that reason.
;)
She loves you Mate, believe it. Tell yourself everyday that she does and eventually you will believe it in your heart. (Affirmations and all that?) You don't want to lose her, so trust her, I can understand that must be hard for you, but everybody deserves a break and you got yours.[sm=1syellow1.gif][sm=1syellow1.gif]
Take each day as it comes and don't try to deal with too many things at once.

It sounds like you had a really productive appointment with your doctor and are on the way to feeling better mentally and physically. I'm a Reiki practitioner and I'd be more than happy to send some healing by distance to you. Send me a PM and we can arrange something.

Hi Dan,
I can sympathise with your post as I’ve had similar circumstances in many ways at one stage of my life.
Rgds,
Roger
