glandular feaver questions

Hi everyone and Namaste.
Please can anyone help with any infomation on the treatment of glandular feaver.
I have been ill for just over a month, just getting over the tonsilitis part of the illness.Up untill the begining of april I was very ( i thought) fit, helthy and active, training everyday(i 1 hour n a half CV plus weights, also hill walking.), eating all the right foods, drinking in exsess of 8 or more glasses of water a day.Taking extra vits, specially high doses of vit C (1000milg x2) Then it hit me, first was the chronic fatigue, so no training( :( )then my eating changed, lost my apitite, well all the usual stuff I guess, then the tonsilitis, now, just so week, depressed , cant sleep right, and really poorly, its awful.
Im taking 1000milg vit c x 4, bach flower remedies, kali phos tissue salts, metertone tonic, trying to keep drink loads of water again. I dont know what to do. I cant afford to take any more time off work, I have kittys to feed......smiles
Please, please help.
much thanks in advance

Hello Melody
welcome to HP firstly... I dont have any major words of wisdom for you however you mention that you have had this since April, it can take several weeks to fully recover and return back to normal so please be patient with yourself as stress can lengthen the recovery time.....once you have a little more energy then you can start with walking around the block etc and increase your exercise daily but slowly and certainly no weights or contact sports yet....
Hope you feel better very soon

Hi Melody and welcome to HP.
Glandular Fever is one of those viruses that unfortunately take a lot of time to get over. I had it at the age of 15 and it took me a good year to thoroughly recover.
It sounds like you are doing all the right things. You need to keep your immune system strong a good multivitamin and garlic supplement will help and make sure that your iron levels are good as anaemia is very common with GF.
I know you have commitments, but please listen to your body and rest when you need to. This virus can lay dormant in the body for some time and you don't want it becoming active again because you have done too much.
Also, in a couple of months, assuming your main symptoms have subsided, some aromatherapy or reflexology could help you feel better and get your body back on an even keel.
Wishing you well.
Lesley

Hi Melody
I also had GF when I was 15, all I could do was rest and talke vitamines .. it also took nearly 3 years to get out of my system. I can also recommend a comfortable sofa, silly films and either tomato soup or hot rice pudding!
Hope you get better soon

Hi Melody,
GF usually takes a long time to recover. So Patience is the word. And learningto manage your energy. You have much less of it than you used ot have, so you will have to "readjust" the amount of things you hope to do in one day. DOn;t try and deamnd more of yourself than what your body can do.
Some alternative therapies than help a lot for GF (and chronique fatigue) are Shiatsu and acupuncture. No "magical cure", but it can help speed up the healing process. And also give you a bit more energy.
With recovery wishes,
Artemis

Hi everyone, Namaste.
Thank you all for your replies, and advice. To be honest I dont handle being un-well "too well" lol... The poorly part, I can do short term, the rest, not a chance, so I guess a learning experience has presented it self to me.
I managed to drag myself out to the shop yesterday and got more vits, some B complex, Zink & a multi vit.Brought loads more fresh veggies n fruit, and have made myself a combo of Bach flower remedies , along with the rescue remedy.
You see, now this is the very hard part for me, I suffered with depression for years and it was hard to beat, I knock it out with diet and exercise (that's why I train so hard every day)
And the thing I dont understand with this GF is, it's brought it back and its knocking me down every step of the way, I cant even fight back.
I cant do any of the things to make myself feel better, I miss walking, singing, dancing, let alone training, and sex( can I say that?) smiles....
My house work is pilling up around my ears, My job, which I have to do is very stressful, I'm a "Psychic\Zen Therapist/spiritual Counsellor"
& as TigerBee said stress can make things worse!!!! I feel I just cant cope as it is right now..(sorry to wine)
Lesley, I do listen to my body, I hear you. But my mind is screaming is head off too... I do use aromatherapy oils, which would you recommend for me?
MC, you made me smile, I think it was Friday all I did was wrap up and lounge on my sofa( which is well comfy) and watch sky movies all day( even ate chocky)........ But really have started to feel worse as the days go by, even to the point of feeling to weak to sit up for long.
I cant believe that something like this can be so debilitating......
Artemis , I have had & love acupuncture before, but as ive hardly worked lately , I cant afford it right now, but , thanks, its something to think about when im more on the mend.
Thank you all for you time in replying, Ive glad ive found this site, ive had a look a round and would like to take part in all the areas when im feeling better.
Im some what tired after doing this post..
Love peace and magik

I had GF when I was 22 and in the middle of Uni and like the others it took me upto 2 years to fully get over it. Thankfully I was able to move back in with my folks and didn't have to do anything - which was pretty hard when I was sleeing for 22 hours a day. I cannot say anything that has not been said already - you have to be patient, if you try and make yourself better by trying to push it beyond what your body is ready to do then you will only make yourself worse - take it from me. I have a friend who has GF now and has had it for 17 weeks instead of resting she keeps trying to do things and now they are querying ME - this can be an off shoot from GF - so you mustvtake it easy... Do you have a friends around and about you may be able to take you out for a drive in the country? You just have to find new ways for the time being of doing the things you love but at a different level.
Keep smiling

Melody,
Providing you don't have high blood pressure, I would recommend 3-4 drops of rosemary and 3-4 drops of grapefruit oils in the bath daily.
Alternatively, make yourself a lotion or oil, using 50mls of carrier with 8 drops of rosemary and 8 drops of grapefruit. This is a good pick me up, but don't use it in the evening, or you may have problems sleeping.

Hi,
My son had glandular fever when he was five (very young I know) our G.P then was also a homeopath. As I remember he gave Tom some homeopathic powders called Pulsatilla. The effect was amazing, one day lying on the sofa, listless and poorly, the next running around again. I am not saying pulsatilla would work for you, but homeopathy might be an avenue you might like to try
Hope you feel better soon,

hi & thank you,
Lesley Ill try that tomorrow, and Pam Ill look in to that too, To be honest, Im actually feeling some what better.
Attuide of mind loads of extra vits ( Im a big beliver in hot houseing) all seems to be working, also seeing the experience as a learning curve, karma can really kick your but when it needs to...
My pain belongs to the devine, it is as air, it is as water.
Im looking inside.
without this, I would still be waped up in the hustle of work and self satisfaction, way off track, needed a swift kick in the ass.

Hi Melody
I had Glandular Fever when I was doing my HNC in my mid twenties and then was diagnosed with (supposed) ME by a naturopath. I'm relatively fine now, although I still can't tolerate alcohol as a result of the GF. I did have my tonsils taken out though, so that may have helped despite making me feel like death at the time. The GF followed on from one of many bouts of tonsillitus (Epstein Barr virus???).
I've also been feeling a lot perkier since taking "Tyroplex" from Higher Nature for the past few months. In the ad it says that it gives you a 'feeling of drive', which I guess it has. ;)
I also thoroughly recommend Reiki, as like you I find it hard to be ill and push and push and push myself until I collapse in a heap and am forced to rest. Reiki is a lovely way of feeling thoroughly rested while only 'losing' an hour or so of your precious time.
