Hi Hopefull
Where are you congested? Sorry your msg doesn't say and I am sure some reflexology will help but I don't want to give you out the wrong points to do.

Hi Donna
Where do you live? Anywhere in London? I'd really recommend you to go and see a reflexologist and ask them to work on the chest and ear area. You might find it slighlty painful as you're congested but over time this will ease as will the congestion. The other alternative for your chest is to put a teaspoon of vick vapour rub in a basin of hot water, breathe in the vapours that the water releases but make sure that you cover your head and the basin with a towel to keep the vapours inside. Breathe as deeply as you can through the nose and out through the mouth.
I hope that this helps.

Hi there!
What steps have you taken so far? How long has this been going on for? How exactly is the congestion effecting you?
Several things spring to mind, but it would be helpful to have a little more information!

Hi Donna
I would certainly recommend reflexology, but also some Thermo-auricular Therapy (ear candling), which is extremely beneficial for relieving congestion in the ear, nose and throat area.
Check out www.thermo-auricular.fsnet.co.uk for a list of therapists in your area. They don't all choose to be listed on the website, so if there are no therapists in the area, email them and they will put you in touch with someone.

Hi Donna (it feels weird typing that)
Don't drink any cows milk! (very mucus forming).
Have you tried Eucalyptus, Tea Tree or Scots Pine in a burner?
I also find that Slippery Elm capsules are helpful when I get gunked up (which as a bronchial asthmatic I often do).

Some herbs also have an astringent action, which means they can reduce nasal secretions without the uncomfortable drying effects of commercial antihistamines. One example is Sage leaf (Salvia officinalis) which can be simply added to food.
Make your own cold-busting syrup using honey and onion (Allium cepa). This delicious and effective winter remedy has protective properties similar to those of garlic. Chop a medium sized onion into rings and place in a cup or bowl. Drizzle a couple of teaspoons of honey over the onion rings and leave overnight. The next morning separate the syrup from the solid onion. Keep the syrup in the fridge and feed off a spoon (1/2 –1 teaspoon depending on age) once or twice a day. Toddlers and children from one year onwards love this recipe!

Hello again :D
Sinusitis
What’s happening?
The sinuses are, in effect, open spaces in the skull. They come in pairs and there are four sets of them; two spaces just behind the bridge of the nose, two in the upper nose, two in the forehead (just above the eyebrows) and two under each eye (just to the side of the nose). Their job is to warm, moisten, and filter the air coming from outside into the lungs - but the trouble with spaces in the body is that they are the first places to become congested when any kind of infection takes hold.
When the sinuses are congested, blocked, irritated, or inflamed they can trigger a whole range of secondary symptoms including earache, headache, toothache, pain in the face, loss of the sense of smell, bad breath, and tenderness in those affected areas. If you spot swelling or puffiness around the eyes, trouble is brewing - so get to the doctor quick. Sinusitis, if it’s not treated, can lead to meningitis or pneumonia, so don’t take any chances.
What to do
Chronic sinusitis is often linked to asthma and is the result of an allergic reaction. That means it won’t go away until you identify the food or environmental triggers and remove them. Dairy products and milk are not helpful since they trigger the production of even more and thicker mucus, which will be harder to drain - so be strict and cut both of these out. Chicken broth has the opposite effect; it will thin the mucus causing the congestion, and speed up drainage - so serve this for lunch every other day.
Betacarotenes convert to vitamin A in the body, which can help heal inflamed mucous membranes. Give an age-related dosage of a betacarotene supplement once a day for five days. A low-dose zinc lozenge formulated for kids will also help boost the immune system, so it can fight off secondary and further infection.
Start the day with homemade lemonade; combining the juice of two lemons with hot water and organic maple syrup. This helps to relieve congestion by cutting mucous production.
Homeopathy is excellent for helping both the chronic and acute forms of this condition, but because it may be linked to asthma and other underlying allergies, your child will benefit more from a proper consultation than a DIY regimen. To find a qualified homeopath in your area, contact The Society of Homeopaths on 01604-621400. To find a doctor who is also a qualified homeopath, call The British Homeopathic Association on 020-7935 2163.
If the doctor has prescribed antibiotics, which is the usual treatment for this condition, make sure you supplement the diet with a good quality probiotic. This will help rebuild levels of the good bacteria in the gut that help to keep us healthy, but which get wiped out by antibiotics. Solgar's new Advanced Acidophilus Plus (60 veggie capsules cost £7.95) is ok for kids over four. For toddlers and infants, use the ABC Dophilus powder, which costs £13.85 for 49.6g. For local stockists, call 01442-890355.
