Libido
Hi all :D
If it's not too personal a question, have any of you (particularly the ladies) ever completely lost your libido? If so, how did you get it back?

On another thread you mention anti-depressants. These are most definitely a very major loss of libido. If you are on such medication and want to continue, there are alternatives that have a lesser effect on the libido, but you will find when you come off them, your libido will return.

Hello girls, :D
Although the GP tried to give me antidepressants I refused to take them as I have been depressed before and I know that I'm not feeling like that. I feel very irritable most of the time, and occasionally murderous, but it's more like PMS than depression. Also, I've taken so many synthetic drugs in the past and I'm sure that's why my body is such a wreck, so I'm loathe to take any more!
I know it sounds morose but I feel as though the me that I used to be died while I was pregnant and I don't know how to get her back.
I have been reading how hormones affect the libido which is all very interesting but very complicated. Does adrenal stress cause thyroid disorders and oestrogen dominance or is it the other way round? It's like asking what came first, the chicken or the egg?

I think a good homeopath could help you with that. Loss of libido is very common in women, even though most do not talk about it! You deserve to enjoy sex and feel good about yourself. Depression, hormones, and depression all go hand in hand. I know friends who never ever regained their libido after birth, and they just live with it. You do not have to do that! There are ways to bring your body back in balance. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sweetheart.
You may find Agnus Castus a help for you. It helps re-balance hormones due to hormonal inbalance with our monthly cycle.
You may also find Evening Primrose Oil a good one for you.
Magnesium OK. Has essentials in them that replaces the extra vitamins and minerals we need around our cycle. In some cases we need double the quantity. We lose a lot of iron during our periods.
Remember with all herbal medications you have to give it a couple of months to start really working. You may well feel a difference quicker than that though, I did, I used to feel EXACTLY how you feel now. Dare anyone to come near me at them times. [&o] I'm pleased to say I am back to normal :D Whatever that is, Leo may well disagree with me here.... [sm=rollaugh.gif]

Hello Ladies,
A terrible affliction to misplace the libido - it's always there, simply needs a kickstart sometimes. How about using the Aussie essence below. I don't think you need to fall into any category of the negative conditions but the positive outcomes is what you wish to achieve. I love these essences - they work! Haven't used this one (yet! might try it for an extra boost! :D)

Hi Sweetheart,
Could be many things, but having a baby certainly does affect such things. How old is your baby? Have you got a good diet coz I think you might need to look at that as it can affect PMS seriously. How is your relationship with your partner?
These are all things that you need to consider. You could need a supplement, a good night's sleep or more.
Maybe you will tell us a bit more?

Hi Candie,
I found this in my book:
"If you suffer from an underactive thyroid nearly every aspect of your body will be altered - this includes your sex drive. When your body isn't working properly, the natural desire to reproduce is one of the first aspects of your health to suffer. The loss of libido can cause great distress and worry, especially when you do not understand the cause. The thyroid influences your sex drive on three levels:
1. Direct changes to brain chemistry;
2. Changes to the level of sex hormones;
3. Indirect effects as a result of general hypothyroid symptoms."
It also says "When the thyroid becomes underactive, the sexual signals do not trigger the autonomic response, and the sexual urge and satisfaction is diminished or ceases altogether".
There are several more pages but basically it says that progesterone cream can help. It says that the symptoms of oestrogen dominance and/or reduced progesterone are similar to and often mastaken for hypothyroidism.

P.S. The book is called "Why am I so tired - is your thyroid making you ill?" by Martin Budd.

A combination of Ayurvedic herbs. I have used "Shatavari" and "Ashwagandha" although I would strongly advise anyone to seek professional advice from a qualified practitioner in ayurvedic medecine. As with anything, self treatment is not always recommended.
Hope this helps...

I am surprised that no one mentioned the possiblity of Post Natal Depression. this can last years I am sad to say but can be sorted out.
A couple of my friends had it and have to say that the ol' sex drive was the first to go. then there can be other signs as well - a sence of loss being one of them.
get your self down to the doc and tell her what you are feeling. Explain that it does not feel like depression and thinking that it might be PND. It could be a hormone imblance.
Best of luck

I did tell my doctor but he completely ignored me and then tried to give me anti-depressants, so I have asked to change to a female doctor. I have't had the guts to go to her yet in case I get the same response.
I'm thinking of making an appointment with Martin Budd as he's only in Brockenhurst, which isn't too hard to get to from the Island. GPs all seem much of a muchness - they see the body as lots of separate bits instead of seeing a person.
