blood pressure .. veins .. rubber band .. vibration
sorry for the ambigious thread title - i wasn't sure exactly how to title the thread.
I had been told by a doctor recently to watch my blood pressure (at the time it was measured, it was like, about 160/114, later 15x over 104).
That was a few months ago and through regular excercise and much better dietary habits (much less sodium) - my blood pressure is generally in the prehypertension area (maybe about 13x/8x) or lower (12x/7x). Needless to say, if i consume salty foods, or even (i've noticed) if i consume something high in caffeine - it can spike up a small bit (earlier it was 140/77).
My dietary habits re: sodium were about as bad as can be (but much much better now). I don't drink/smoke/do drugs/eat meat or dairy - so i'm safe there. I am particularly high strung however :023:. I meditate almost everyday and try to observe better breathing patterns - it's always a give or take though.
Since i've omitted much sodium, i find myself endulging in too many sweets (a vegan that just discovered the fine art of vegan baking - who doesn't have a girlfriend, thus, eats all the goodies by himself is....... :013: ...a dangerous thing :035:) heheheh.
Ok, onto the crux of my question. Every now and again (and sometimes more often than others) i experience a temporary funny feeling in my vein - sort of like a "pulsation" (this isn't specific to any vein, just varies depending on the experience). The sensation is intermittent, and the total duration of the intermittent pulsations can be a minute or two or very intermittent over the course of say, 20 minutes - roughly (meaning, the sensations won't happen for 20 minutes straight, it may happen one or two times, give or take, over that twenty minute period. each sensation in and of itself is about maybe 1-2 seconds in duration).
The best way to describe the feeling is - imagine a rubber band that's stretched out a bit, and then if you ping the rubber band - it will vibrate/pulsate a bit - that's the nearest i can describe the feeling.
So....bringing this all home to one final cataclismic conclusion :022: ... does anyone have any idea what this is (or might be) and if it is (or might be) related to anything to do with blood pressure?
thank you ...

thesea This reminds me of muscle twitching-contracting and relaxing several times rapidly, my eye has done it today but I do feel it in other parts of my body. Where is the area you describe? Are you sure its the vein and not the surrounding tissue "moving"?
Im wondering if your hypertension has caused you to be a bit more aware of your body and something that you would have brushed off is playing on your mind. You BP is not dangerously high however rupture and blockage are possible at most pressures in the right circumstances. Look at the area near the vein-bruising or fluid build up is bad news.
I came across some pages on natural BP lowering foods and things recently, including garlic if I remember rightly maybe you could have a look.
I think the sensation is nothing to worry about though :048:

nishira Hi Thesea,
thank you. It could be a part of the muscle sure, i can't say for sure. I presumed it was a vein, but it could be part of some muscle twitching as well. The reason I think it's a vein, and this is also in answer to what part of the body i feel this in - is because i feel it in different parts of the body at different times. Sometimes it's one arm, sometimes it's the other, or a leg, or the other - etc.
I don't see anything that i would consider to be bruising (in other words, my veins/skin look normal to me) - i wouldn't know what to look for in regards to "fluid buildup".
thanks again....

thesea Muscle twitching can be anywhere on the body from your calf muscle to the tiny little muscles that raise your hairs when your cold. Veins twitching isnt something ive heard of, I dont think they are muscular, arteries are very muscular and can spasm. Fluid gathering in the tissues would be caused by decreased blood or lymphatic drainage, if blood cant return to the heart it is separated, smaller cells and plasma move into the tissues and it swells and sometimes yellow fluid leak from the skin.
Im not to sure beyond this.
Maybe a systemic allergy, I have met a woman with schizophrenia who had similar feelings.

nishira hmm, in light of what you posted above - i'm thinking that maybe indeed, what i'm feeling is muscle and not vein/artery twitching.
if it is muscle twitching, any ideas on what might contribute to that?
