Doctors!!!
Hi everyone
Here's a good one. I was treatinga friend of mine /client who was suffering with major stress. She wanted an aromatherapy massage which she thoroughly enjoyed. The next time i saw her, she had been put on medication, Beta Blockers. So i said that she should speak to her GP and get clearance for treatment. I spoke to her a few weeks later and she had been put on more medication and had seen two doctors. One said yes go ahead and have a massage it will be good for you and the other said absolutely no way should she have a massage. I would have done a relaxing massage without essential oils and just used them for inhalation.
Well, i have decided not to treat her even though she wants to. Anyone had this before??

a) your friend/client should speak with her doctor and ensure she is happy with the reason (s)he gives as to why they shouldn't have a massage.
b) at the end of the day the choice is your clients as to whether they want a massage or not, as long as they are happy to put in writing that they have been advised by their doctor not to have a massage, but they still wish to have one with you then you are covered. It may be that the doctor knows nothing about aromatherapy or may think the aroma's will interfere with the medication in some way (which is odd as they usually say all this stuff is mumbo jumbo and doesn't do anything ;)), but there's no real reason why a non-aroma massage can't be done.
The key is, just make sure it's in writing so that you are covered.

Hi
If I was your patient irrespective of what treatment I was receiving a massage sounds lovely and I would have one.
The last time I went to a doctor I got told "I have a room full of real patients out there I haven't anymore time for you".
I am dreading going either thsi Friday or next Monday to obtain a sick note.
Hope your client comes back for her massage it would do her a world of good.

That warrants a letter of complaint to a) the doctors surgery and b) the general medical council (or whoever is responsible for the doctors). No doctor should treat patients like that.

I quite agree with what you said,Energylz.
I would have felt disgusted and reminded myself never to see that doctor again! We have a few like that at my surgery,I tend to avoid them.

Hi Giles and Everyone
The trouble is as I have a lot of medical problems if I complain they can refuse to treat me. I may have to wait until my current regime is over and then complain.
By the way I have made a note not to make an appointment with her ever again.

Fee,
If you have genuine issues that need to be treated then the doctor is required to treat you. If you are refusing their treatment and complaining that you want something else without justified reason then, I believe, they can refuse to offer further treatment. (Also they can refuse to treat you if you are abusive to them in any way).

wasnt very nice of dr to say that to you Fee. I used to have a dr who told me "to pull my socks up "when i was feeling very low( depressed) and had no sympathy for me at all and it made me feel worse so i never went back to her (stupid dr!) instead went to other drs in the practice who were ok.well one was an alcholic, one liked dolls( man) and one who treated me offhandedly. now am ok with an other practice with lady doctors but avoiding a certain lady dr who made sure she looked ok, looked at herself in mirror before doing an internal( i was wanting it to be overwith!!) and hurting me!

HI Everyone
I decided to save myself some money as I had a dentist appointment and the doctors are in the same building. Due to the fact I have a swollen arm pit and it is very very tender to touch and I cannot lie on my left side for the last two nights as it is so painful and swollen I decided to get myself checked out.
I saw the nurse, she looked at it and decided to get the doctor to check it over. Unfortunately for me the duty doctor was the one who saw me before. I decided to see how the visit would go and kept calm.
First of all she said "when you have surgery they cut through tissue and post operatively swelling can occur and sometimes be painful especially with drains etc". I know all that as I have had 12 operations and this last one was the 7th on the same site and second one with drains in the same place.
It is three months since the operation and the swelling has got worse in the last week so I decided to get it checked. Basically I got told there was no swelling and yes it may be tender but nothing to worry about.
So I then plucked up the courage and asked about my sick note. "You have only had a mastectomy it is high time you were back in work".
I tried to go back to work for the last fortnight and discovered I can't hold lever arch files, I can't punch paper and I can't put files away in a filing cabinet.
She said "isn't there any other work you can do". Well I was a legal secretary doing a law degree and I am administration trained.
yesterday when I saw my psychoanalyst she said it was too soon to go back to work. I even told the doctor that she replied "I wish they would keep me informed".
I then informed her I had hospital appointments on 1st August and 10th August and a new employer would not like for me to muck them around with so much time off.
She then issued a sick note until the 11th August.
I retorted to her as I left if I could work I would I was working full time doing a law degree part time and a legal accounts course by correspondence so I am not lazy.
I could understand it if I hadn't anything wrong with me but I have.
What have I done wrong and what does anyone else think I should do.

Hi caringsoul
Thanks for your message.
I had a horrendous day yesterday. Ended up having to call the out of hours doctor out.
Initially when we rang the doctor I spoke to said I will arrange for a prescription to be collected at Tescos.
My partner was incredulous that they refused to examine me in the state I was in. We then telephoned a friend who asked for details and rang the out of service himself.
By 2pm the out of hour doctor was here and examining me. It was so bad he gave me an injection straight away and some diazepam. He said the other prescription would be a waste of time and said he would make sure it got cancelled.
This means now my symptoms will be put on my medical records and the treatment I have received.

I have had my psychoanalyst phone me today. She has sent a brief report to that GP telling her that I am unable to return to work as yet.
As I saw another consultant on Wednesday she will also get that report too. I think by the time I have finished she will be inundated with paperwork from various medical professionals.

It was only two months ago I had a lady being treated for vertigo through reflexology. After only two treatments she was able to cut her medication in half, after three she was able to sun bathe - something she's not done in three years!
During a check-up she told her GP the good news.... did he support her?
"Don't go messing around now" He told her, and made her go back to six tablets a day. So she stopped seeing me.
It's nice to know I'm seen as 'messing around' by another professional!
