received bad bedside manner from drs?

Hi there,
I just wondered if any one else has received any questionable remarks from their drs/surgeons?
My situation is that i had gynea operation 2 years ago which i had done privately as i believed i was insured. Only after my op did the insurers say after much debating that they wouldnt pay for it so in the end we had to get the money together to pay for it. As you can imagine the surgeon wasnt impressed but it actually wasnt my fault as the insurers let me down and we got in trouble financially about it too. But i always trusted this particular surgeon. So when 2 years later i find out that i have to go through the same op , naturally i wanted the same surgeon. This time knowing i wasnt insured but wanted it done privately so i could have the op done sooner. i rang bupa found out how much it was and secured the money in my acc ready. I had to wait 2 weeks to be reffered to the same surgeon who knew all my gynea history.
When i got there he asked why i was there ( even though he knew as i had to be refered to him to go private) and said that he would not do the op as he had debt collectors after him from the 2 years ago debarcle and had a go at me implying that it was my fault and i had madea lot of trouble for him and what did i think i would gain from even making this app with him? After this he went abrupptly through some of my symptoms and said he would be happy to do the op on the nhs but not privately. This man made me feel completely stupid and so i spent most of the app apologising for something that wasnt directly my fault and felt like i shouldnt be bothering him about my gynae problems. At this point i felt so bad i just burst into tears then he starts to back track saying that even if he did do it he wouldnt be available for 1.5 months so it not worth spending 6k on an op that i can wait a few months further for. The op actually is not even 3k.
The thing is now i dont want him to do the op at all now privately or nhs, i cannot believe some one in his profession could be so petty over something that happened 2 years ago. If he didnt want to do the op i feel he or his secratary should have contacted me when they got the referal 2 weeks previous to tell me instead of purposely humiliating me and upsetting me. Also this app would have cost me £150 alone but when he saw how upset i was he said he wouldnt charge me for it ( which makes me think he knew he had crossed the line).
A Hospital is the last place anyone wants to be really and i really dont like them or dr surgeries and now i wont even go back to my dr about my problems.
Is this the norm? Has anyone else been spoken to like this? I ask out of interest as a simliar thin happened to my mum.
5 years ago my mum had cancer of the womb and so had to have surgery on nhs. She went to an app to meet her surgeon and talk about the surgery with my dad and asked the surgeon lots of questions about the procedure etc. Which i think is only natural and when you have to have a major op , its a very scarey thought not to mention the worry of having cancer. My mum and dad both asked a few questions then my mum asked one and the surgeon got off his chair and started to shout at my mum saying didnt she want the op? dont you want to get better? Which my dad had to calm the situatuation down as my mum was beside herself with shock and anxiety. It took a lot of courage for her to actually go through the op with this surgeon.
i wonder if we are just unlucky or if this happens to everyone else?

[sm=hug.gif] Hello Carolinemac,
I myself have no faith in the NHS in fact i am in the process of suing them,i made a person who called himself a doctor to go back to college and learn some bed side manners as well as his job. because he was pathetic, he didnt like it but tough,
you can put a complaint in against the doctor you saw, he had no right to speak to you like that.
the trouble is they do it all the time but nobody does anything about it so they get away with it. sometimes they dont realise they have done anything wrong.
i have got the patients addvocate working with me. you need to see what options you have in front of you, but dont let them get away with speaking to you like that. good luck
take care
