Tired after eating

Hi
Has anyone else had this problem. After eating bread, sugar and sometimes cheese I feel so tired just can't keep my eyes open and feel very under the weather, it sometimes last for a few days. I have tried wheat free bread and I don't feel so bad but it's just horrible, can't fine any that is nice at all, and as for sweets, chocolate, cakes, buscuits they are all out, also can't drink any alcohol it makes my face burn, can't eat high fibre that gives my diarrhoea, has anyone got any of the some symptoms? if so have you found out what is causeing it.
It really gets me down, feel like I can't eat anything but protein, all veg and fruit go through me so what is there left.:(

My father went through similar to this many years ago, and in order not to fall asleep standing up (believe me, it happened!) or doze off during an afternoon interview with customers (he was a bank manager) he was advised to give up carbs. He did, and it turned him around. This was 1971, and he hasn'teaten bread, pasta, rice or potatoes since. He occasionally has a day off and may eat a 'normal' meal if he is out, but only if he knows that he can safely sleep it off that night and the following two days!!!! He sticks to lean meat, cheeses, veg and fruits and occasionally has a glass of medicinal wine. You may find that until you establish a routine with avoidingcertain foodstuffs, you may get loose stools. Life does not have to revolve around bread. I rarely eatit myself, and stick to seeds, nuts, fruit, cheese, dairy (cream over sugar free jelly is a fav at the moment!) veg, lean meats - there is plenty of variety.

That is very interesting, but I think a low carb diet is not good for the kidneys, and I have only got one, I had a transplant two years ago, I did have this problem long before my kidneys packed up though. I remember going on the Atkins diet once and I did feel a lot better but that cut out a lot more food stuff, have you got the some problem as you don't eat bread? I am going for my check up tomorrow so will ask the Dr if I can try low carb. Thanks for your reply.

sounds like classic candida to me..........
(I know it's 'my thing', as you'll see from other posts, but this is a genuine feeling based on the foods you mention :D)

Hi. Yes I have thought about this a lot, as I have been on so many antibiotic for a couple of years it could be that. The only thing with that is I must have had candida for a long long time now, as I said I am going to see my Dr tomorrow and will ask her what she thinks. Thank you for your comments.

This tiredness isn't an ordinary tiredness, it's more like a hangover and sometimes my bones ache too, I have it really bad today and the only thing I can put it down to is yorkshire pudding with the flour. I did go to the Hospital today and ask about trying a low carb diet not Atikins that is far too low but just cutting down a bit and he said to try it, they also took blood test to see if I have a yeast infection. Can anyone tell me if they think Candida andirritable bowl are linked?

Answers:

Suggest you try an alkaline diet. I am sure you will be very pleased with results. Sounds like candida which is probably adding to the acid load on your body through its metabolic wastes. Suggest you look at work of Dr Robert Young author of pH miracle book and related titles. I have suffered with a lot of similar symptons in past and alkalising has broughtexcellent results.

Answers:

I have just looked at the alkaline diet and most things on it are giving me a problem diarrhoea with the fruit and veg, and tiredness with the bread etc.
I have been feeling pretty ill the last couple of days and I put it down to pasta, I just will not learn that I can't eat anything with wheat, it has taken me three days to get over it. Sometimes I get to the point when I worried about eating anything, can never eat a cake or chocolate or have a drink its pretty boring, all I seem to be able to eat is meat, fish and rice now. I tried some corn crackers this morning and had to throw them away felt tired soon after, I wouldn't mind but as I have said before it feels like I have a hangover. I was thinking I might have low blood sugar so looking into that now. Thanks for your reply.

Hi
Ive read your posts with interest, i think certain foods in general do make you feel tired after eating, look at christmas day and all those goodies we eat, after lunch its very rare any of us move of the sofa!!!!!!!
I think you can have a test done incase you have wheat intolerance, or if you have an allergy to certain food types. Ive read that some peoples life has changed after changing their diets.
My husband found out he had a fatty liver and after research we found a book Syndrome X which has recipes in and tells you why your liver doesnt function properly with certain foods, and guess what most of them are carbs....
We cooked lots of recipes in the book and i can honestly say, i felt less tired, had lots more energy, didnt get that 'afternoon' slump that catches us all......apparently if the liver is functioning correctly then the body does too.
It reads that some people carry a fatty liver for years and never realise.
Its a good read, worth looking up online.
I fall of the wagon now and again, as i do love 'the carbs'...but do eat healthly most of the time.

Take a look at the GI diet. It focuses on eating natural stuff eg brown bread not white bread. I try to avoid processed stuff like white bread esp when working in an office environment as I end up sleeping on my desk from about 3pm.:D

I have the same problem. .. getting tired...
I see you all talk about some kinds of diets. I really don't like diets. Isn't there any diferrent solution?

Answers:

I'm not a nutritionalist, but from my understanding...
Eating carbohydrates and proteins within the same meal makes it difficult for your stomach to digest all the food as it operates in such a way that it can really only digest one or the other at any one time. There is something call the Hay diet (which isn't really a diet), which advises on eating carbs in one meal and proteins in another. This, apparently, helps to detox the system and allows your body to digest the food properly whilst maintaining energy levels.
Another important thing is to ensure that you eat your meals at the correct times of day.
Eat a sufficient breakfast to give you the energy you need to start the day, have a good lunch and a small dinner (or tea depending on what you call it) and do not eat later than about 5 or 6 pm, otherwise your body will not be able to digest the food properly before you go to sleep and your digestive system slows down for the night. It's ok to snack throughout the day on healthy snacks to maintain your energy levels.
Also, drink sufficient water. So many people are dehydrated and getting the body rehydrated can really help it to operate better.
