I completed the survey. The initial question asked was 'Can drinking alcohol be good for you' The survey links to a guide to alcohol and sensible drinking which provides a FAQ on the subject. One of the questions is:-
Isn't alcohol good for you? and the answer provided is:-
For men over 40 and for women past the menopause, drinking a small amount of alcohol (1-2 units per day) helps to protect against heart disease and stroke.
I'm sure that this is sound advice but I would ask whether there are other ways to protect against heart disease and strokes? What about people whose religious convictions prohibit the use of alcohol and what about recovering alcoholics?
Personally, I gave up drinking alcohol over a year ago and I think I am a lot better off for doing so. I didn't have a problem with it and I wasn't an alcoholic but occasionally I found myself drinking far too much in an evening than was healthy.
Anyway...Good luck with the survey.

Alcohol is detrimental to your health especially your liver. Alcohol befogs the mind and prevents rational thinking. Alcohol causes road accidents and innocent lives lost. Alcohol increases the occurance of domestic violence. Alcohol addiction causes financial ruin.
Many of grow up in societies where drinking is second nature to most people. Alcohol is staple in some societies, among an increasing number of people. It is also becoming an irreplaceable component of "having fun" and partying. No get together seems complete without alcohol. Tequila shots over the bar counter, vodka and vodka lime for beginners.
"Let's go have fun tonight" is being replaced by "Let's go get pissed drunk tonight."
It can be difficult to deal with an environment where peer pressure is overpowering - which is almost always is. But consider this: Drunk people embarrass themselves in public and in front of friends. They have little control their actions or their words. One friend of mine nearly died because he walked onto a busy street in his drunken stupor. Another friend was raped by her boyfriend while she was asleep/hungover.
You have a million reasons to stop drinking - not just for yourself but for your friends and family...and especially the innocent stranger who might get hurt by your actions during a drunken stupor. You'll feel healthier - it's a guarantee and you'll save money to do other cool stuff.

AzimScot,
I think your statements are a bit of a generalization really.
In large quantities that can be the case. I actually know an alcoholic (has been for many years) who drinks between 1/2 and 1 bottle of vodka a day. He's now 72, and his doctor says he defies logic as he is fit and healthy and there is no damage to his organs.
That I can agree with.
As do many other things; joy riders, people talking on their mobile phones, people driving to slowly or not driving in a confident manner etc. Alcohol is notthe primary cause.
Do you have any evidence to show that to be the case. Yes, alcohol will not help situations, but a lot of DV can also be linked to the way in which certain people have been brought up in society/by their own parents etc.
Your statements are very "difinitive". It is not the case for everyone.
Some societies drink regularly and have no major drink issues. If you look at the population of France, children are brought up being given wine to drink during meal times, wine is even available from McDonalds, but France does not have any major drinking problems as we have in the UK. IMHO, Drink is not the cause of societies problems.... society is the cause of the drink problems.

Anything is bad for you if not done in moderation. Even eating too many carrots can be bad for you!
Moderate consumption will still however dehydrate and absorb B vitamins from the body. Alcohol causes acidity in the body, so therefore it is essential to reverse that by making the body more alkaline.

Alcohol is also a stimulant in small amounts and a depressant in large amounts. Hence when in a depressed state a person is aberrated and acts irrationally and can become violent, irresponsible, etc...
As for the health aspect, the body becomes acidic after consuming alcohol so it is important to make the body more alkaline to improve function of blood cells and replace the B vitamins.

well i think drinking is not good for health, but only if it is in great amounts. If you drink socially i think there is no problem. Everything got limits, so you just have to know your own limit.
