Flavoured Water

Hi There,
I am working hard to increase my water intake but find that I just cannot drink enough plain tap water to reach the recommended daily amount. I have been using bottled flavoured water which I enjoy but it works out quite expensive, obviously contains loads of artificial sweeteners, additives etc. and loads of plastic bottles for recycling as well!!
Does anyone have any tips for adding natural flavour to tap water ?

I like to put some slices of lime into mine. Or you could squeeze a few drops in. It makes the water look more appealing.

Hi,
I love water, it's my favourite drink!
As chickenlicken said adding some lime will make it taste good.
Lemon and orange are good too, or you could even add a little fruit juice to liven things up.
You could also try making some fruit puree and herb/spice ice cubes with your favourite fruits and herbs/spices. They will add a very subtle flavour, but more importantly they will look tasty whilst being healthy. Don't know what else to suggest ~ Sorry!
In time you may get to like drinking plain water.
Cheers!

im with mrsbean on this one - water is great!
if you really cant stand that taste - my coworker drinks the crystal light packets..and my hubby started out with the bottled waters - and then just added more water to it (he would get a bottle of lets say gaterade or powerade - take a 32 oz bottle and fill it 3/4 full with water, take and fill the other 1/4 with whatever flavor...until it got to be less and less and eventually he stopped as he started liking the taste of plain water....
the fruit idea i like - might have to try that one myself!

Hi
I like to slightly chill mine and add a slice of lemon or lime. If you scrunch the slice of lemon in your mouth you will not taste the water.

Hi
Thanks for your reply can you tell me more about the crystal light packets?

Thank you all for your response, I look forward to trying out some of your ideas

Hi John,
I like water with some barley, hops, and yeast added. Takes the flavour of the water away.
Have one for me mate!!

crystal light packets you can get at your local supermarket....but with the sweetners and such in it - it is safer to drink regular water...

Hi John,
Although Windynight's comment appeared to be in jest, there may be some value in it:D:D
Obviously water is a hell of a lot better for you than beer, but think about it, If someone gave you a beer and said 'drink that', then how long would it take you to drink it? 10-15 mins? If someone gave you a pint of water and said the same thing, how long would it take you to drink that? A lot longer I suspect. Because it has no flavour you're likely to take smaller sips and consequently it seems to go on and on forever. Therefore, this is what I propose. Next time you have a glass of water, drink it as if you were about to down your first pint- with reasonable speed:DIf you can down the whole lot in one go, that's even better (hopefully you're still with me at this point- I mean down the whole glass of water in one go;)!!)
When I first started upping my water intake, that's the approach I took and can easily down a pint glass in one sitting. I found this was a better way than trying to add stuff into it to make it taste- all that did was make me bored of the same old flavours and like you say, theres loads of nasties in squashes and bottled flavoured water.

There arent that many additives in Evian flavoured water. But anyway, you dont have to drink water in order to get the required daily amount. Whether you get the water from food or drink it makes no difference, so you could just try eating more of foods which contain loads of water, such as cucumber which is around 95% water etc.
I wouldnt pay to much attention to the recommended daily water intake anyway, many tests have shown it to be a myth and a lot of people get enough water just from food.

Has just a small drop of cordial such as apple cordial been mentioned yet? (Mind you, I think it's bad for the teeth.) It also sounds as if the problem comes from being in an area with real bad tasting water?
I drink lots of water, and it's 'pure' but carbonated. I have heard that's not good for you but know of no evidence for that. On speed of drinking, I must say that I drink when thirsty and any type of water goes right down, no problem!
Anyhow, if carbonated IS healthy enough - no additives - try that? A large bottle is for me about 42p I think.
PS in reply to Ton88. I agree. These huge amounts some say we should drink - is it 8 glasses in addition to all other drinks? - are now questioned and doubtful. The body tells you to drink ... when you are thirsty. Where did this magic "8" come from?? Why not 5, or 11? Probably an old wives' tale.
