Clicky Joints
Hi all,
I have very clicky joints - not painful but just painfully sounding! It's mainly my shoulder, elbow, lower-back and knees - they in particular are horrendous. Intuitively I have been feeling for a while I would like to see a chiropractor but don't know much about this type of treatment. Am I on the right lines here? I feel my body may be out of alignment somewhere (although the clicking may just be something 'normal' that I have to put up with!), and would like to see someone about it.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks
Trudy

I have clicky joints too, i don't know if we are experiencing the same symptoms though. My knees and my elbows click all the time, its not painful but sounds painful. When i walk my knees click and if im lifting myself off from sitting down my elbows click.
Its bothered me but only to an extend because it doesn't hurt and it not like my joints are coming out of place. My husband on the other hand is very worried and thinks im not getting enough fish oils etc.
I don't know why my joints do it, im young, slim, exercise regularly, try to eat a balanced diet (although i dont really eat fish and meat too often).
Good luck on finding something that helps, im very interested in seeing what others suggest.

Start taking fish oil capsules or eat oily fish, you have drying joints that will lead to arthritic pain eventually. ;)

If it's just the odd few joints that click, then one could say that it may be due to a structural dysfunction or misalignment. The latter being largely a myth IMHO, but then I can say that as an osteopath. :D
General / widespread 'clicking' & 'cracking' of joints is clearly a systemic problem, which may be due to several causes and one solution could be as Lyn suggests with supplementing fish oils. Certainly I concur that the joints are dry and that's not a good thing in the long term.
One way or another the appropriate nutrients aren't either being consumed/absorbed/utilised or being transported to the joints.
Plenty of water, preferably not tap water (UK) - that's a given, but bizarrely commonly overlooked.
Unless some study of nutrition has been done then a vegetarian diet can lackcertain partial proteins needed, vitamins & mineralsfor joint health. Sorry - don't shoot the messenger [8D].
If all appropriate nutrients are being consumed, then there's likely a problem with absorption, utilisationor transportation. Put simply it's not getting thru to where it's needed. The gut being port of call for absorption problems - allergy / intolerance. i.e. gluten intolerance (coeliac) is associated with osteoporosis - poor mineral absorption.
Some of the main nutrients that are known to help with joint health;
Calcium (preferably not carbonate (has been known to aggravate), Ca Citrate is probably best balance of cost and bio availability)
Glucasamine sulphate & hydrochloride
MSM
Chondroitin
Vitamin C
Copper
