Eye Laser Surgery
I am thinking of getting my eyes lasered, I have the consultation and I am a good candidate. Has anyone had this done, good and bad stories appreciated :)

Hi Becky,
I had laser eye surgery done about 2 years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done!
I know that it is still a bit contraversial but I did plenty of research and thought about it for ages. I also spoke to others that had had it done and decided to go for it.
I had mine done with Optimax in Bristol. They were absolutely brilliant. The surgeon was excellent and the aftercare was first class, which, in my opinion, can make all the difference.
The type I had was EPI Lasek as apposed to Lasik so they lasered through the epithelium of the eye instead of cutting the flap and lasering underneath it (sorry, I imagine you are probably aware of that already!).
With the Epi Lasek treatment I was told the recovery time would be longer and possibly more painful but I was very lucky really, I had a bit of dry eye towards the end of the healing process and that was about it! Obviously, that's not to say that it's like that for everyone.
If you want anymore info, feel free to PM me.
If you go ahead with it, will you change your HP name?!

Hi
I had this about 4 years ago. both eyes were nearly -5.00 with astimatism. I had lasik with the flap cut open etc. I think its slightly changed now. done at optimax in london.
I'm now back wearing glasses to drive and read sometimes as they've started deterioting again and are -1.15 in one eye and -0.75 in the other.
I can still do most things without glasses and I don't really regret having it done. It is such a relief as before I couldn't even find my glasses without my glasses on.

There is a heap of stuff on the internet for laser eye surgery. If you haven't already done so take a look at this site. They have a lot of info: www.allaboutvision.com/ (and no I am not related to this site in any way.)

I have the EPK treatment done too about 5 years ago and it was without doubt the best thing I ever did. It was less discomfort than a dentists visit, a bit sore for a few days but well worth it for the 20/20 vision I now enjoy. I also went with optimax and they were fantastic.

Does anyone know if laser surgery is possible on people that are long sighted? I think I'm about a +5 and I also have a squint.
Thanks

Sorry i don't have any info for you but im interested to see what others have to say. Im interested in it myself, but probably won't be getting it done for a couple of years yet.
I need to find out if im eligable first because im sure i read somewhere that it might not be possible for those with squint (lazy eye) which i have.

Thanks for the responses. I have decided against the treatment as the long term effects of the surgery are not known. I have spoken to an Ophthalmologist at the hospital and she does not recommend eye laser surgery. She suggest that perhaps I wait unitil I am about 40 because that is when there is a marked change in the quality of eye sight. I don't want to spend money now only to find that I need to spend money again when I am 40, I think Iwill wait 10 years. So my name will stillbe the same :)

Good for you Becky
There are always contact lenses. Ophthalmologist always seem to frown when you tell them you've had surgery like they know something you don't know. You didn't say what your current prescription was?

Stigmatism in my left eye 1.75 and "normal" right eye 1.75. It is not that bad really but I was just briefly tempted by the thought of not having glasses or contacts (which I alternate). I am sure I can wait a bit longer :)
