Eye exercises

:D
Hi There
I've been trying to find details of eye exercises on the internet but I haven't had much luck. I am short sighted and astigmatic and would like to improve my eye sight using exercises rather than having laser surgery I think the exercises will help to strengthen my eyes aswell as correct my vision.
Does anyone know an author or any websites that deal with this topic? All the ones I have found either want you to send money or are connected to using the pin hole glasses.
Thank you

Hi Minkey
Have you come across the Bates method yet? Their website is www.seeing.org. They do include a few exercises to get you going but I think the idea is that you find a teacher for the method and that will involve paying for it I guess. I've been curious about improving eyesight by eye exercises too but not tried anything yet - so will be interested to see if anyone else comes up with a new method. I don't fancy laser surgery either!
Good luck and - by the way - I love your name Minkey!

Thank you Rachel - I have heard of the Bates method before but Icouldn't remember the name - think I need to exercise my memory!
You don't seem to get much for free in this life - I'll have a good look at the site and also see if I can find anything else about the Bates method - I will let you know if I find anything interesting.
Thanks again

PS I've been using this name for ages - can't even remember what made me pick it

 Dear Minkey
I'm myopic and also suffer with astigmatism in one eye. I read the Bates Better Eyesight book years ago with every good intention.
BUT the main problem is, in order to do the exercises over a period of months, you have to literally chuck everything away - no wearing specs or contact lenses. Not really very practical for modern office workers.

I did wonder about that problem - trying to correct/change your vision and still wear contacts and glasses aswell. Your eyes wouldn't know if they were coming or going!!

I tried this program, but it tends to work best for those who aren't terribly shortsighted. I have horrible vision, so when I can afford it, plan to get Lasik.
The way around the dilemma of chucking contacts or eyeglasses -- you just "step down" slightly from your regular prescription. Then exercise back up to clear vision. Then when your vision is perfect, you step your prescription back down again slightly, then exercise your way back up to clear vision. Keep doing it and eventually you won't need any glasses at all.
