Jelly Fish Safe Sun Tan Lotion
Hi all,
Has anyone used this? I'm going to the Maldives in June and I'm paranoid about being stung by something!
I wondered if anyone has used it or knows anything about it?
Thanks,
Siany

I haven't heard of it, but I have been to the Maldives twice, never seen a jelly fish or been stung by anything - and if there's anything that bites or stings, I usually attract it! (sweet blood methinks!:D)
The only things I came across to be wary of are sandfish - you can step on them and they cause irritation so just get some shoes (diving shoes?) that you can wear in the water - and grazing myself on the reef whilst snorkelling - the reef carries bacteria and so grazes can take a while to heal, I suggest taking tea tree oil with you.
I would suggest taking old t-shirts that you can wear while snorkelling - stops the cleaner fish from trying to nibble your moles and freckles, which tickles!
Where in the Maldives are you going?

Hi Siany,
I agree with Amber Lady.......you really should get yourself some diving shoes before going in the water. My husband and i were in florida last year and he stood on something in the ocean (we still don't know what it was). His foot started to blister and was swollen for the rest of the day. Luckily, the swelling went down quite quickly, so he didn't need any medical attention....just an antihistamine. He wouldn't go back in the sea after that, but i bought some diving shoes and they are fantastic. You hardly feel that you are wearing them. I would definately recommend buying some for your trip!

Hi ya,
thank you so much for your replies! I was thinking of Sea Lice which apparently like mosi's of the ocean? I do get biten by everything so I'll be make sure I wear a t-shirt... I thought I'd wear one anyway cos I'll probably get burnt! Definately going to be buying some shoes though - my husband already said those as he knows how unlucky I am!
I'm staying in Summer Island Village which I think is a Budget resort but it's AI and I'm only going for the fish and sun! So I'm sure I'll have fun!
Did you see any sharks when you were snorkelling? It will be my first time snorkelling and all aprehensive about it :)

Hi there
We went to the Maldives for new year at the Millenium - Olliveli View (think that's how it's spelt!) - it was fantastic! Neither me nor hubby had ever snorkelled before, in fact hubby can't swim but I got him snorkelling. We never went any deeper than about 2ft of water but there was still loads to see. We saw a small reef shark one day, very close to the water's edge and just walked along with it! We also sat on the steps of the jetty every day feeding the fish - all different colours, sizes etc. My only regret is that I didn't go diving - such a scardy cat me! We didn't have diving shoes or any other protection apart from a good sun lotion, but I think it makes perfect sense to take any precautions recommended to you.
Have a fantastic time - I'm sure you will you lucky devil- and tell us all about it when you get back.

We snorkelled around a coral reef in Mexico last summer. We were warned that sun tan lotion can damage the reef and that it should never be applied less than half an hour before swimming in the area.
