tongue piercing
HI, i was thinking about getting my tongue pierced, has anyone has any serious complications involving this? and what would happen if you accidently swallowed it?

Hi! I got mine pierced a good few years ago! No complications! The piercing itself was not too painful, although the second day was quite uncomfortable(tongues swells alot)[sm=fit.gif]!(lots of icepops)[sm=bouncy.gif]
I swallowed my bar after a trip to the dentist! Noticed a scratching feeling in chest, went for xray and voila.....never did see it again...

oh no, is there a lot of scarring, like a big hole, if you decide to take it out?

Sorry, to put a damper on your idea lum, and I am sure there are a lot of people with pierced tongues who have had no problems, but I suggest you read this before going ahead.

my daughter had her tongue pierced last year, altho i wasn't at all keen on the idea. however, the place where she had it done was absolutely excellent, even tho the guys doing it looked like ex boxers! everything was really sterile and one of the guys is a trained nurse, which was very reassuring. she was given excellent advice on maintenance whilst healing, had no swelling or any other problems, altho she lived on soup and ice lollies for a week. she has had all subsequent piercings done at the same place with no problems at all. the only downside so far is that she had to reduce the size of the stud as it was wearing her front teeth out. i'm still not really comfortable with it as i feel it may interrupt the flow of energy along the meridians but the best advice i can give is: make sure the piercers are experts -get personal recommenations; check that the place is clean, the piercers wear gloves and change them between every patient; make sure thaey are trained on what to do if there are complications or you go into shock. have fun!

Hi Lum!
Its a good idea when undertaking any piercings to be aware of the risks! The tongue closes up relatively fast(withing hours)without the bar, leaving no scarring...

HI thanks for all your advice, also i have another question, there a lots and lots of websites stating the health implications having your tongue pierced can lead to, such a AIDS, chipped teeth, absceses, blood poisoning etc etc, can i REALLY get THIS bad? and how can i be sure that the piercing place is really sterile and the piercer is properly trained

Where abouts are you? I had my belly button pierced at Metalmorphosis in Selfridges in London. Can highly recommend them... it's also a tattoo parlour but when you walk in the rooms they are so clean and shiny! :D
