brittle bone disease
I don`t know anything about this disease and really need your help for a friend. Her brother has been told by the hospital that he has brittle bone disease and that he may not see 60, he is 51 just now. As you can imagine she is in a terrible state, i didn`t realise that this disease could eventually kill you.

Hi Lola,
Is this the same as osteoporosis (which is the medical term for brittle bones?)
My grandmother has it and also my father as it is apparently hereditary. My nan has had it for over 20 years and although it affects her badly (i.e she knocked into a table and broke her hip) she is still very much alive, albeit under the watchful eye of nurses at the home she lives in.
#The doctors should be able to perscribe some sort of calcium tablet that should help to try and strengthen the bones, or at least slow down the process.
I do wonder if it is the same condition as although it can kill you because your bones just start to crumble, i'm really surprised to hear that someone has only been given that length of time to live!
As i know that i will probably get it in later life i drink about 1 pint of milk a day for the calcium and also take zinc supplements which i have been told is also linked to having brittle bones in later life.
Not sure if this will be of any use or comfort to your friend, but I hope it helps in some way.
