Chronic Cough

Hello everyone,
My mother has been suffering from a chronic cough for the last three or so years, though it has been especially bad of late. She'll wake up in the middle of the night (though it effects her in the day too) and end up coughing until she is sick some of the time.
The tests at the doctors and specialists have come back negative so I am urging her to try some alternative therapy. On my list are kiniseology, reflexology, homeopathy and accupuncture.
I would ideally like to give her a wide ranging list of options so she doesn't feel pressured into doing one thing over another, just what she feels comfortable with.
She's 62, has always looked and acted young for her age, but I can tell this cough is really draining her energy and something needs to be done.
If you have any suggestions, anything whatsoever I look forward to reading them.
Many thanks,
Alex.

there is one cause which might not have been picked up, but is suggested by the history you give - that is gastro-oesophageal reflux at night, where the stomach acid comes up, and in the process irritates the respiratory tract.
it would be worth a trial of being well propped up at night, and taking a good slug of gaviscon liquid before retiring - available over the counter. if that is effective, she should ask her GP to arrange tests for hiatus hernia.
