How many of you like shot's or needles?
Hi, I've been in the hospital for seven days with blood clots in my lungs and right lower leg. When I was in hospital I had three IV's and many shot's. I hate shot's or even needles. Glad to be out but I have a future of shot's and blood drawn from me in the future for life.
Thanks, Bobby43

I hope you're ok now and on the road to recovery! I was thinking it'd gone quiet here... take things nice and easy and erlax and read lots of hp and get pampered. :)
I don't mind injections, the anticipation is worse than the reality and neither hurt. I do however have to see what is going on so I feel relaxed - if I can't see I can't be comfortable0. I don't like other people having jabs though, I really feel for them and hate the thought they may be in pain. Mums intravenous drip came out when she was in the hospital last time and it was rather messy. She was having the drip reinserted and I passed out. Argh! Never happened before, I swear it was more the pained expression of suffering she had on her face than the actual needles, but I felt so sad for her. In true heroic style Martin walked into the ward at the time I started to fall and caught me, what a hero!

Hi, Thanks for caring. The hospital wanted me to give myself the shots but I couldn't keep my hand from shaking and so I had a friend give them to me. The needle is about 2 cm long or 1 inch long. The shots must be put in the fat area of the body. I will be going to the doctor for the rest of my life and every month for blood thinner tests to make sure the blood thinner is kept at a 2.0 and I cann't miss a doctor appointment because me doctor said she will not give me blood thinner without it being checked.
Thanks, Bobby.

Is this Warfarin they've given you? Mums on that and I know it took a few visits before it all got sorted, but once it is you'll be feeling much better. It works a treat too, apart from the inconvenience of having to see the docs for checks. Can't imagine how it would be to have to give myself an injection, I'll admitit's something that does bother me.
Was this all very sudden then?

Ohlalala Bobs[&:] sorry to hear this bad news of yours [>:] I loathe injections, esp. into the muscle but worst for me are finger pricks :( When I had to have a series of injections in my thigh once, a nursing sister suggested that I take them in the skin on my tummy & it worked ... didn't feel a thing :D so maybe try that ;)
I've been doing quite a bit of research on blood circulation and related issues for my Dad [>:] and would like to share some with you too.
http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2003/...3_awsi_01.html - OMEGA 3 OIL http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2002/...2_awsi_01.html - FOLIC ACID, VIT B6 & VIT B12

Also recommended are magnesium, lecithin, Vit C and Vit E .... but I'll let you do your own research Bobs! I managed to find one brand esp. formulated for circulation which contained most of all the above.
Here's to getting that blood flowing smoothly again & your health back:)

Hi, I hate to tell you why I have been having blood clots because it was because of a dog bite from my own dog. My dog was playing with me and another dog I have and she bit me instead of the other dog. You know how dogs play with each other and they grab each other by the fat around their neck. The dogs ran between my legs and was playing and she accidently bit me in one of the main veins in my leg that is close to the surface. This happened one year ago and I was in the hospital at that time for 8 blood clots to the lungs and I was on Coumadin pills for a year till my doctor said I should be taken off of the pills and my body should go back to being normal and I didn't take pills for two months and than all out of the blue these clots came back and went from my leg to my lungs again. This time it was 5 clots. So I will never stop taking coumadin for the rest of my life. I was hoping to stop the pills and doctor visits but I cann't. The doctor told me I cann't do some things in life because of the blood thinner like ride motorcycles and some jobs that will make me bruise.

Hi Bobby you poor poor thing, blood clots are very frightenting esp in the lungs, well they would be to me.
Dont worry about not being able to do certain things, I am sure that there are ways of compensating yourself without being stupid and ignoring doctors warnings. Perhaps, if you enjoy riding bikes and cannot (is that right) because of your illness, you could set up some sort of bike club, at least then you would be around them - or would that make matters worse.
As for having to take medication for the rest of your life, welcome to the club. I suffer from epilepsy and have to take epinutim, at first the doctor thought that I was just using it as a crutch as the doseage was low, but not it is had to be increased and I will be on them for the rest of my life. But as I have been taking them already for over 20 years I guess I've got used to them. Now its a common to me as cleaning my teeth.
I realise a needle is a different matter, I used to be really scared of them then suddenly (it may have been because I had to be strong for my daughter when she had her shots) the fear just went. I am now even able to watch as the nurse takes a blood sample - I can't believe it and you know what I'm sure it hurt more when I wasn't looking. However I do know of a man who used to ride the bike Norton Comando bikes - great big machines - a real man if you know what I mean, always fainted as soon as the nurse got a needle out!
Over here diabetics can get those nice little pen needles, can you get them for your illness. They are much better than the normal needles as all you have to do is put the business end against your skin and click the top (just like a pen) and it is done! easy peasy. If you can get them it may help you a lot.
Anyway, Good Luck I hope you are feeling better soon

Hi Bobby,
I wondered why I hadn't seen many postings from you of late - you poor thing. How awful to have to go through blood clots in the lungs. - I have a friend who suffered with that and it wasn't very nice seeing what she had to go through.
I'm glad they've sorted the clots and that you can at least have something to keep it from happening again. I know - it's not very nice having to go to the doctor on a regular basis, but better that than another stay in hospital eh? - the food's so awful there!!:D
It's good to have you back. Look after yourself and give your dogs a cuddle from me. I feel lost without a dog but as I work full time it wouldn't be fair to have one at the moment. Still, I'll be giving up full time work soon so maybe I can reconsider then.
Have a good week and keep going from strength to strength.

Gosh poor Bobby! I was wondering where you were, missing your posts. I have to say that I don't care much for shots and needles mainly because I have naughty veins that won't allow easy access :D It was a bit of a challenge when I was having chemo because first they have to test your blood to make sure you're fit for the treatment, then they have to place a canulla in a vein in your hand. Lots of slapping and putting hot things on my veins, I can tell you! Once when I was having an anaesthetic they had to put the canulla in my foot as a last resort.
I did find however that the blood thinning injections weren't too bad because they just inject subcutaneously rather than having to find a vein. Believer is right, it's supposed to be less uncomfortable in the skin of the abdomen rather than the thigh. Either way you can end up with some pretty bruises.
