Cold hands and feet!
Hello,
Wonder if anybody can share their knowledge with me!
From time to time I get really cold hands and feet. I know this probably stems down to a circulation problem, but if anyone knows any herbal remedies or useful advice etc, that would be really helpful!
Thanks in advance

Hi Nova
I do hope you haven't got what I have. It's called Raynaud's Disease and it is indeed a circulatory problem which has no cure (plus no one knows why you get it, except smoking doesn't help!) For me it started with my fingers sometimes going numb and getting pins and needles. then they started to turn white and navy blue in the cold. I also used to get dreadful chilblains. Now I spend the winters in a hot climate!
It appears that Ginkgo Biloba (available from the Health Store) can help but I'm not sure of the dosage and whether you have to take it all the time or not.
Good luck.

Hi Sunanda,
I certainly don't get the pins and needles and numbness etc...so I don't think it's as serious as Raynauds disease. So it's atill a mystery!??Although the idea of moving to hotter climate throughout the winter sounds oh so slightly tempting! Thank you, I will try the Gincoe!

Be careful with Gingko Biloba - it sent me hyper, and I'm normally laid back - too much of a blood rush to a brain that's probably not meant to be that active for me.
I've got cold hands and feet too - they went when I had my Reiki 1 attunement...........don't know why.

Not to be too personal, but are you easily tired or overweight? One of the symptoms of thyroid deficiency is an intolerance to cold.

I get really cold hands and feet that turn blue esp under my finger nails but its not all the time, and my hands esp can get quite painful. There is no pattern to it I can get the blue hands during the hottest summer day - just thought it was me being a little strange. Will give the GB a try and see if it helps. Hope it helps with you as well Nova.

I tried Gingo Biloba once and it too made me hyper. I'm quite a busy person anyway, but I felt it made me a bit shaky (like nervous anxiety) and I felt like my heart was racing. I didn't like it at all, so stopped using it as soon as I figured out the connection.
I have always had severely cold hands and feet too, maybe it's Raynauld's. So far I haven't found a miracle cure.

Sundana, did you expereince any side effects with the Gingko?
Hi sarah, not personal at all... no I am not overwight at all, I am very petite....I don't get tired easily either, I am a bit of a night owl, although I do admit, I love my lie ins! Any other thoughts?
HI Babe, it's nice to see I am not alone! It can be so frustrating though especially being a therapist, I dont want to put frosty the snowman hands on my clients! Have u tried the Gingko yet? I am a little anxious!
Does anyone know of any other explanantions / remedies? I hope it's not Raynauds!
Thanks peeps

I gave my partner Gingko and Shizandra for his cold hands and feet (he is not overweight - in fact he was under weight when I met him and he had all these problems). He had no side effects and I also gave him Ginseng. All of the above combined with a good multi vitamin was very effective and even helped him with his IBS. He hasn't been using any of the above for many months now and none of the old symptoms are back and his IBS hasn't been bothering him for a long time now. He was very bad when I met him...

Hi there,
Have you tried homeopathy at all? unfortunately I can't recommend a specific remedy as it is a holistic therapy and all symptoms need to be considered to find the one that suits you best, so I would recommend that you find a good homeopath, the ARH website is probably a good start to find one in your local area.
Hope this helps.

Cold hands and feet can be a symptom of so many things. Thyroid problems, diabetes, heart problems.. all manner of things.. but for the large majority it can be as simple as how you're feeling at the time, I agree with the others here on supplements, and have also found that when people are under any stress (myself included) the circulation can become sluggish. If you are under any stress at the moment and this problem has just set in you may find an improvement when things settle. It's worth giving the suggestions above a try, however if you are worried at all, have a word to a dietician or your gp for advice and to put your mind at rest.
