Does this mean going under the knife to suck/cut out excess fat etc?
It'll only come back unless you change your lifestyle through healthy eating and regular fitness training. And if you're going to change your lifestyle, you will lose weight anyway!
All the best.

Yes Shawn, I agree with Darren, you are too young, and in fact nobody should really need to regulate their weight through surgery. It's a cop out.
Just get up and do some regular exercise : use 500 more calories a day, eat 500 calories a day less, and most people will lose a couple of pounds a week. Carry that on for a year and you'll lose stones.
Have a target weight and work down to it. Take responsibility for everything you put in your mouth - is it healthy, and will it nourish you? Or will it go straight to your hips and stay there?
Come on Shawn -start now!

Dear Shawn, Am I right in thinking you are 14 years old? You profile says your dob is 91.
IMO this is a crazy way for anyone, let alone a teenager to think - that having someone take a knife to your insides is an option to anything but a life threatening disease. We've spent millions of years evolving into a species who's way of life was to work hard for it's meals. It's only in the past few decades that obesity has increased as we exercise less and eat more calorie-filled meals.
Your body is your temple. It doesn't need major reconstruction, just some regular maintenance.

Didn't know you were 14! Take up a sport with your friends at school! Sport is the best way of losing weight because you don't noticed the time has been spent running around or whatever, and you enjoy the time you spend playing it. Plus you get to socialise and make new friends. And if you're good, it impresses the girls ;)
If you aren't keen on the sports on offer at school then ask your parents if you can join a club that does stuff you want to do outside. If they say no, you can always say "but I was thinking about my health... you don't want me to be unhealthy, do you, mum?" :D (ok emotional blackmail on parents isn't fair so don't pull that trick [8D] )
Have fun :)

There was a programme on TV last night about this Shawn. Did you see it?

Sorry Shawn, (thanks Lesley for correcting me) I did not realise that you were in the US.
Form watching the programme last night, the surgery that you are talking about is a very extreme measure, so much so they will not perform the surgery in the UK to children under 18 (the girl in the TV programme was 16 and had to go to Belgium to have this surgery done.)
From what I saw on the programme, this is a last resort. Try exploring other possibilities first, like diets and exercise regimes. Surgery is a scary thing to go through, and this is an extreme thing for your body.
Take care

Hi Shawn,
my goodness yes way to young ..people of your age often get what we over here call puppy fat ..it's all a part of the way your hormones are at the moment and a normal part of growing up. like Darren says watch your diet & get plenty of exercise & as you grow it will go.... put the thought of surgery right to the back of your mind.. i know that it seems like an easy option.. but it carries a lot of risks along with it.
love and hugs Maria xx
