Lightwinds, I dont really know much about exercise, but even if you have strained your muscles i doubt it would give you a temperature with sickness? I may be wrong, however if you are not used to exercise it may have hurt your tummy, neck and shoulders. I find it very uncomfortable doing sit ups as my neck is very dodgy! I suggest if you want to do some to start gently, and just start by lifting your head and shoulders slightly off the floor, they recommend that your chin should not be tucked in but held level. Hopefully someone else will reply who has more experience.
Good luck and DONT OVER DO IT!!

Hi Lightwinds,
Sorry to hear you arent feeling to well [:'(]. You could of strained your tummy muscles from doing situps.
I can only pass on the knowledge that my Tae Kwon Do master taught me so here goes!
1. Make sure that you have your legs bent when you do them
2. Dont pull yourself up through your neck with your hands (the normal reason for poorly shoulders/neck afterwards). You could try placing your hands on your knees so they slide up your legs or straight up (but this can leasd to achy shoulders)
3. Dont try to haul yourself up so your chin touches your knees. The most effective 'situps' are called stomach crunches and only require a little angle between your back and the floor (less than 50 degrees).
4. Like Vikki said, dont push it! Do a few at a time, and gradually build yourself up to more.
I'm not sure what brought on the temperature, but I hope it settles down quickly.
Hope I've helped a bit. I know the pain you are going through - have you managed to work out how to get out of bed yet without using your stomach muscles?

Lightwinds,
As Vicki has said, it is unlikely that muscle strain would have given you a temperature. However, these (or any exercises should never be done having just eaten. Ideally, a light meal should be taken about an hour and a half before exercise and exercising on a full stomach can bring on sickness.
Rest until you feel fully recovered and then take it slowly following the advice given above.

It really doesn't sound like you have strained your abdominal muscles, by doing full sit ups as you have described them. By putting your feet under the sofa, you will probably find that alot of the work will be done by your hip flexors & not just your abdominals. If you have strained your abs, rather than feeling tender, they will ache and possibly feel bruised. If it is only your abs & not a bug, they will feel better after a couple of days.
I'm not a fitness instructor, but do exercise a lot and am studying sports massage. I'm sure you'll get lots more advice, but would recommend the easiest way to do sit ups/cruches is:
1. Bend your knees while doing sit ups
2. Place hands either side of your head, but don't hold the head as this can lead to neck strain. If your neck hurts take a break
3. Do not tuck your chin in, you are trying to keep the neck straight, look at a point where the wall & ceiling join.
4. Lift up only a couple inches, sucking your abs down as you lift
5. Exhale on the way up, inhale on the way down
6. Tilting your pelvis also helps keep the small of your back on the floor, try resting on your heels rather than your feet.
I hope you feel better soon, I get these sudden urges to get super fit too, so I know where you are coming from. ;)
