Computer not letting me connect directly through ethernet port? (serious)
I moved into my apt today, and although the wireless works fine, when i plug the wall outlet into my tower, the computer recognizes that there is a connection, but there is no internet connection at all. Why is it doing this? (I am trying to connect to the on campus internet btw)

do you need a security code or something? well when you first connect to the internet, you are supposed to get a school page that makes you register before you can use it. But I dont even get that page, there is no internet connection at all even though my computer says that the LAN is "connected" under network settings and it knows if i unplug it.

Maybe you need to type the address of the school page first.
Maybe you need to type the address of the school page first. no, it's supposed to come up automatically.
Right-click on the connection icon and select "Repair".
Dude just go and ask someone who uses the campus network or one of the guys who deal with it. Kinda silly asking the misc.

Have you tried shutting down and restarting? Making sure your cables are firmly in place? How are you posting if you have no connection?
I had this problem trying to use my Xbox on campus a few years ago. When you go to the campus register page its probably registering your MAC address so when you try to connect with another interface (ie wired rather than wireless) it doesnt recognise the MAC and stops it working.
If that is the problem then you can just change the MAC address of your wired network to the same as the wireless.
