How will getting a back massage effect my muscle growth?

How will getting a back massage effect my muscle growth?
My back aches for about 4-5 days after my grueling back workouts. Would a back massage prevent maximum results in muscle growth? Or will a back massage help the muscles recover quicker, thus providing more results?

Answer:

it will have a positive effect. all the pro's get deep tissue massages regularly. it will help to flush lactic acid out of the muscles.

Answer:

X2,

Answer:

All I can see it does is loosen your muscles up hence better w/o. so indirectly yes.

Answer:

You can't always get a massage unless you have a gf or something, so try stretching post workout. I ALWAYS stretch and it makes a VERY, VERY noticable impact on my recovery.
I do a push/pull/legs routine for the most part, switching things up now and again. Doing high volume right now for instance, because the extremely heavy lifting is absolutely brutal. And I work in a VERY labor intensive job so I can't afford to be slaughtered at work too.
Streeeeetch post workout. Your muscle gains and recovery will make sharply increase. I preach about this so much but no one does it. I have about a half dozen bro's in the gym all stretching post workout now and they won't stop coming up to me to tell me how much it's helped. :D

Answer:

I get a deep-tissue massage every month and not only does it help growth but it allows you to have normal flexability and movement. Deep tissue massages break up much of the scar tissue that you incur from heavy lifting.

Answer:

I have a tens machine. lol (no pregnancy)

I stretch during and after and it helps tremendously. People look at me like they have no idea what the hell I'm doing it for. :(
I remember getting in the habbit years ago because it looked cool when Arnol did it in Pumping Iron.
The only embarassing thing is when I am really pushing my workout, totally focused, and when I go to stretch I don't pay attetion to what I'm grabbing onto and I've knocked over equipment on several occasions. Always make sure the equipment is bolted down! :D

When it came time to stretch she just came up to me, point blank and said "I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but you're doing it ALL wrong"
I was pretty pissed. Sometimes people look like you don't know what you're doing, especially if you're propping heavy dumbells for an incline press but instead just stretch... but I don't care. I surpassed everyone at my old gym, and I'm already surpassing people at my new gym. While everyone makes no gains over the weeks and months, I do. So let them stare... maybe they'll learn something. ;)

They were peobably thinking, "Here's this skinny kid trying to be Dorian Yates". Now that I'm a lean 220, and still growing, they don't say shit. They just get the **** out of my way.
That's wierd what you said about that jacked chick. Was she at least trying to be helpful? I have never had anyone come up to me and give advice but I often ask some of the old dudes for pointers. I figure, if those guys are still in the game after all these years I could probably learn a thing or two from em'.

I figure, if those guys are still in the game after all these years I could probably learn a thing or two from em'. The jacked chick and her bf/SO are seriously, seriously fukcing jacked. I'd love to have her quad sweep to be honest. And although I typically appreciate the advice given by them and others, I didn't appreciate the smug look on her face at the time.
I was in the zone too so maybe I took it the wrong way... but how the fukc do you stretch wrong? Really...? It's obviously working for me, and not hindering my recovery in any way. I think she was just being a bit elitist. I won't hold it against her unless it becomes something chronic though. Everyone makes slip ups but if thats her true character she can stuff her advice.
In any event, I usually train with headphones on. I just noticed a few definitive juicers at the new gym so I've been training without headphones, letting myself participate in small talk and whatnot. My last gym had no juicers and very few serious lifters, so it really sucked except for never having to wait for equipment.
I also started that new gym on a DC "cruising" phase with a lot lighter weight. Now that I'm loading up 6 or 8 plates on the oly bars and deadlifting from the floor for reps, people are starting to give me a lot more respect and asking me for pointers and help setting up their diet and routines.
