Deciding if I should clean bulk.
Deciding if I should clean bulk.
Here is my sitiuation. I just started getting into lifting this year and I am very ready to start things out serious. I was up around 210 at my heaviest ever now i am down to 170-175 after some very low food intake combined with a somewhat south beachest diet (these diets were super unhealthy and i wasnt eating nearly as much food as my body needed).
I bounced around on a few lifting programs for a few months and never really stuck to one for more than a few months. Even though i was practicing poor excercise habits i did gain some muscle. I can feel the indvidual muscles in my abs, along with a slight growth in my ches shoulders and arms.
My problem is that is till have a thin-medium layer of fat over top of all these muscles (Im working on getting pics up to show my body type).
****Now to the original questions i have settled in on a new workout plan from the hardgainers thread in the workout program. Should i take on a clean bulk diet right now to help gain muscle or should i try and get rid a little bit more of the love handles, minature man boobies and other such pockets i have? than after that start a clean bulk once im a little bit leaner?
I have read countless posts trying to find my answer but no one hits the nail right on the head with what im looking for.
Thanks for you time and patience guys.

Clean bulk, 3000 cals-ish, your progress will be able to tell you. At your height you dont want to drop much lower with your weight, Do a short bulk building you up to around 185 then cut another 15 pounds, slowly and continue with your lifting. This will help you maintain muscle and lose the rest of that fat.
I was thinking the same thing. I also forgot to mention that i was planning on doing HIIT 2x on off days. Does everyone else think that the clean bulk is the way to go?

i'm in a similar situation myself.
most will say to clean bulk because right now if you cut you may be disappointed with your results (i.e. being too skinny). others might tell you to get ripped so you can go on a long clean bulk.
it's all up to you man. do you want to be bigger, muscle-wise, with some extra flab or do you want to cut now and be a bit smaller so you can skip a cut later on?
also keep in mind that raising your muscle mass will raise your metabolism, making it easier to cut if you decide to do a short bulk now.
i can't decide either. ;)
that just mad me lean even more towards a clean bulk...heck im used to having little chub here and there...if it means bigger muscles later whats another year
Clean!
Only If You Are Dirty Enough!!
168 pounds and you cant decide?
Bulk up man.
