*New Series* - RA's Classic Match of the Week! (my way of saying thx)
So I thought I'd start a new tradition as my way of giving back to the WWE Wrestling forum. Probably like many others, this place has given me countless hours of entertainment, and a place to "hang out" with fellow fans of the business. We may not always agree, but we all love the art of wrestling.
So, on that note, I am going to start uploading some of the classic matches in wrestling history out of my library, and post the links here for your enjoyment. I will try to post one classic match a week.
These can be from any era, country, promotion or style, and are just some of my personal favorites. Whether you've never seen them before, or just want to see them again, I hope they can at least give everyone a little break in their day and a smile.
****WEEK 1****
All Japan Pro Wrestling presents...
Toshiaki Kawada vs Mitsuharu Misawa (June 03, 1994)

Description: Often referred to as "the" match, Dave Meltzer gave this match ***** (5) stars, and is one of the defining moments in this long, storied feud. Widely regarded as one of the best matches in All Japan history.

Subscribed. Good idea rican and great way to contribute to this section. As for this match, what can I say about it that I haven't said before? Definately the best men's singles match of all time. Everyone who hasn't seen it, this is mandatory wrestling viewing therefore you need to watch it.

Answer:

Great match. Hopefully some new people will become fans of this one with this thread.

Answer:

Thanks, guys. I often go back and watch AJPW or AAA/CMLL matches when I get depressed about the current state of wrestling. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to follow AJPW in the mid-nineties (I was but a lad), so I've just had to watch the matches out of context. I'm sure I'd appreciate these matches even more if I fully grasped the nuances of the feud, especially Misawa/Kawada.
BTW, what do you think is the best way to do this? Should I post every week in the same thread, or make a new thread every week?
It might be easier to timestamp with new threads, but could be easier to keep up with (subscriptions) with one thread.
Let me know what you think, since this is for you guys.

Answer:

I'd post a match each week in this thread. That sounds like it'd be the best idea.
I go back and watch early 80's-late 90's All Japan quite often too
I've only followed the puro scene since the mid-90's but around that time I made sure to go back and collect all the essential stuff from the 70's and 80's that I missed out on. I'm sure I'd appreciate the matches and the rivalries of that era more had I been exposed to them at the time they had taken place, but better to watch them long after they occur then never see them at all. Right now I think I'm doing a pretty good job of keeping up with the current puro scene so I don't miss out on anything important.

Answer:

Great!
I'll just post here, then, probably Monday or Tuesday of each week.
I encourage discussion of each match, as well, as I'm sure there will be differing opinions and ratings of each one moving forward.
As for Misawa - Kawada, nobody can rate that anything but perfect.

Answer:

6/3/94 is so many different things but I think veiwing without proper knowledge will not do it justice.
Like I said, it's so many different things that I know I myself needed to go back to when Choshu & company invaded All Japan through the Tsuruta/Tenryu series through the Misawa & company vs. Tsuruta & company through the Misawa/Kawada series prior to 6/3/94.
I mean if you know the story that led up to the match then it'll definately impact the person watching it. Sadly I did not pay meticulous attention to every detail leading up to it as I didn't watch All Japan pre-94, but after reading the backstory to it I could appreciate the match alot more and I no longer found anything that came close to it.
Kawada, at this point had finally reached the level to where the thought of defeating Misawa was more than just a dream - it was reality. It's simply a classic battle of wills that had reached a boiling point. Amazingly deep and rich.
From a technical standpoint, I can think of a few matches that are better, but for the money, this 6/3/94 match supercedes ever other men's singles match I've seen when it comes to taking an artform to it's fullest potential and excelling at what it is they set out to achieve.
Perfect indeed.
