Both fat and muscle gain, help!
Both fat and muscle gain, help!
Firstly, I'm a bit of an ectomorph type, which might seem strange that Im posting here, but hear me out...
I've been working out for about 6 weeks now, and have in that time, increased a significant weight. I boosted my calories significantly at the beginning, as I'd hate to lose my precious muscle gains.
Basically I've gotten some chubby fat bits on my waste and ass!!
On the other side of the coin, I have noticed a good improvement in muscle development, particularly my arms and chest. (my total gain in 5 weeks is about 13lb (152 - 165), and i guess over half is fat... )
I've been eating great foods: Oats, Eggs, Fruit, Vegies, Rice, Fish/Lean Meat as well as a Multi Vitamin and a protein suppliment.
My question is should I:
1. Cut back calories?
2. Should I not worry about it, will the fat go away as my muscle develops?
3. Should I change my order of eating? Eg. I'm having carbs, protein at the same time, before and after workout, and non workout times.
4. Something else?
And like most, I just want to increase muscle mass, not fat.
Thankyou for any advice!

4. Something else? 1. yes, but keep your protein at the same level
2. probably not. At your rate of weight gain, you have a lot of excess calories. Get it nearer maintenance for that to happen
3. don't know
4. no
It depends on your goals.
When u build muscle u will also gain some fat, and depending on your cals, depends how much fat.
If u were to go 500 over maintanence for a bulk , then u should do fine. Make sure its a clean bulk, Ratios 40% Carb 40% protein 20% fat.
If u really wanna cut the fat off u have gained then go 500 under mantenace for a while.
Your maintenace calorie amount is 2500.
You choose :)
Good luck.
Thanks very much for the input... I've sat down and done some calculations, and my ratios were off a bit. And calories were pretty high (like 3000-3500) so I will revise and take on your advice.
My friend (owner of the local gym) also suggested to cut back on my milk intake. I have about 1 litre of full cream milk in a day sometimes for my shakes. He said the animal fat and sugars in that can contribute to fat gain.
Perhaps skim milk is ok to change to?

Perhaps skim milk is ok to change to? Sounds good
