Jacka$$ cop leaves dog in car for 12 hours....left to die in Arizona sun.
Stuff like this is unbelievable. I watched this story on the news just flat out pissed off. I saw this cop trying to pull every excuse in the book. "How HORRIBLE it was for him, how bad he was feeling."
How the hell do you think that dog felt cooking to death in your car, RIGHT OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE. The car was parked for 12 hours, outside his house, in the heat, and this guy was just lounging around at home the whole time. He at first claimed that he "forgot", but lately he has been trying to change his whole story.
I'm disgusted by this whole affair, and the fact that this guy was the head dog handler for the Chandler Police Department.
Meanwhile, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office announced it will launch a criminal investigation into the death of the dog that died after being left in a hot patrol car by the handler, Sgt. Tom Lovejoy.
"I take this very seriously," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said. "Let's not prejudge the officer. I'm not saying this officer is guilty, but I think it's incumbent for the sheriff to look into it."
Bandit, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois, died after Lovejoy, head of the department's K-9 unit, left the dog unattended for more than 12 hours in his patrol car after he returned home Saturday morning from work.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Tuesday that it is at least a misdmeanor to leave an animal unattended in a motor vehicle. And depending on the incident, it could be a felony or an animal-cruelty charge.
Chandler police had said Monday that Lovejoy would remain on duty.
Since news of the dog's death was made public Monday, Chandler police have received a large volume of threatening or harassing calls from people angry at the officer.
Since then, they've put this guy on administrative leave.
Chandler Police Chief Sherry Kiyler broke her silence Wednesday, four days after one of her department's police dogs died in his handler's vehicle.
The animal had been left for more than 12 hours in a hot patrol car.
The chief released this brief statement: "The Chandler Police Department appreciates the concerns expressed by citizens regarding the tragic incident involving Sergeant Tom Lovejoy and his K-9 Bandit. This is a very difficult time and I clearly recognize the responsibility we have to thoroughly review this incident and respond appropriately. I assure you, the decisions we make will be based on a review of the entire circumstances of this incident."
Kiyler and police spokesman Sgt. Rick Griner have declined to provide details about the incident, citing a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office criminal investigation and an internal Chandler Police Department probe.
Two Chandler City Council members say they expect more answers later. "We need to keep addressing this issue and answering citizens' comments and questions, Councilman Matt Orlando said.
"I have confidence in the chief and I have been assured there will be a thorough investigation," Councilman Jeff Weninger said. "Hopefully, when we find out the details, we will have a better understanding of this unfortunate tragedy."

Irresponsible bulls%6t like this really irritates me. There is no excuse in the world that is sufficient enough to explain why this guy left this dog behind in his car, right outside his house, for 12 hours.

Answer:

Sad for the dog. Usually dog cops are very loving with their animals. I just can't seem how he would have forgot to leave the dog in the car. Something's not right.

Answer:

Look at the bright side, now he has a hotdog:)
Jk, thats really sad stuff. A guy my family knew actually left his baby in his car for several hours. The baby died of heatstroke. I cant believe the stupidity of some people. He never deserved that dog in the first place.

Answer:

they make mistakes like the rest of us. you know that cops are people too right?

Yeah I think its pretty easy to figure out. He got home after a long shift, tired as hell, laid down thinking it would only be for a "few minutes", and by the time he got up, he either completely forgot the dog was in the car, or it was too late.
In anycase, the responsible thing would have been to drop off the dog at his shelter area, or bring him into the house. When you are in the care of another living being, whether is a baby, or a dog or a gerbil, YOU HAVE the responsibility to assure its wellbeing. This guy screwed up bigtime in this regard.

My idea of a mistake-forgetting my wallet at home, not getting to work on time, forgetting to call my fiancee at a certain set time, not making dinner reservations ahead of time.
Those are simple mistakes.
When you do something that results in the loss of life, that goes beyond just a simple "oops, my bad." Do you know how hot it gets in a car here in Phoenix, out in the sunlight? That dog didn't just die, he was basically cooked to death. It has nothing to do with him being a police officer, and everything to do with him being simply irresponsible. This whole situation could have easily been avoided too, that is what makes it really sad.

Answer:

hope hes found guilty and convicted fully. what a ****ing moron theres no excuse for this, doesnt matter if he forgot its a bunch of bullshit to begin with, its a GIANT GERMAN SHEPARD IN THE CAR and im sure he was barking and barking when he was getting his ass fried. the cop is guilty without a doubt.

Answer:

He better go to jail
Its weird actually a kid I know his dog died when he went down the shore because they left him in a car too it was a little dog so he died faster after that I didnt talk to him every again
but a big german shepherd dying is something, he needs to get fired

It could have been another Sgt or peace officer placed the dog in the car to get him fired. Anyway, it's a sad thing to die like that.

Answer:

sad.

What about people who leave babies in the car to die during the summer?

Answer:

this shit sickens me. i love dogs, and reading this makes me ****ing PISSED...how can someone do such a thing.

Answer:

sure hes a jackass....just dont brand all cops as jackasses. You can tell by his comments he did. I mean how many dogs this year have died from heat sitting in a car. Probably hundreds but because this guy is a peace officer he's suppose to be perfect. Which is how all peace officers are branded.

Answer:

What about people who leave babies in the car to die during the summer? Ironically I think people (the public) are more saddened by animals.
******* person though to do either.

Answer:

What about people who leave babies in the car to die during the summer? I was thinking the same thing

Not quite. I was in the Army myself, and I know how things are, especially after going into the Guard after my original active duty term expired and working with several police officers from Phoenix. This act was not that of a typical police officer. This guy's actions showed tremendous disregard and irresponsibility, which is in direct contrast to the many terrific professionals that I have had the pleasure to work with.
Is this a slam on all police officers? Hell no, the fact that this guy WAS a police officer and acted this irresponsibly, is like a double strike against him, for failing to live up to the standards of his uniform, as well as standards of basic human decency.

Answer:

What about people who leave babies in the car to die during the summer? ya, i hate watching the news and theres a 10 minute story about how some poor dog dies in a car. Then they're like "in other news, 4 soldiers killed in Iraq, children starving in Africa, and unemployment rate rising."
