Anyone else pissed off with UFC 74's prelims?
Anyone else pissed off with UFC 74's prelims?
looks like a great card, except there's two things that bug me. this is the card:
UFC 74: AUGUST 25, 2007, Mandalay Bay Events Center, Nevada
UFC Heavyweight Championship
- Randy Couture? vs. Gabriel Gonzaga
- Alberto Crane vs. Roger Huerta
- Georges St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck
- Joe Stevenson vs. Kurt Pellegrino
- Patrick Cote vs. Kendall Grove
[PRELIMS]
- David Heath vs. Renato ?Babalu? Sobral
- Frank Mir Vs. Antoni Hardonk
- Marcus Aurelio vs. Clay Guida
- Ryan Jensen vs. Thales Leites
-----------------------------------------------------
who wants to see kendall grove vs patrick cote? cote has lost all of his UFC fights except one which he won, which was a boring decision that dana white was pissed about. also, roger huerta vs alberto crane? huerta is being built up by the hype machine that the UFC has, and has never faced anybody that's a remotely near the top 15 or 20 LW's in the world, he even struggled against doug evans at the last UFN.
not sure about everyone else, i'd MUCH rather see aurelio/guida, and mir/hardonk instead of kendall grove/patrick cote and huerta/crane. the UFC would even sell more PPV's i think, look how exciting clay guida has been recently, and aurelio even has a submission win against takanori gomi in pride. people say mir is done, but he's still a draw, a former HW champion.
CLIFFNOTES:
-who wants to see kendall grove/patrick cote, cote is boring.
-who wants to see huerta beat another can?
-i'd much rather see mir again.
-main point... why the hell isn't clay guida/marcus aurelio on the MAIN card? that's bullshit.
-rant over ;)
ive mentioned before that i thought the choice of fights was a bit dull.
they always have good fighters on the card matched with poor-mediocre fighters, {yeah, i know even jason thacker would give me a run for my money!} then have maybe 2 good fights, in this case GSP-Kos & Couture-Gonzaga.
got to get the fan favs built up {v nobodys} & the new guys a chance though {v other new guys}!

got to get the fan favs built up {v nobodys} & the new guys a chance though {v other new guys}! roger huerta is a good fighter i think, but they're building him up to be this really good well rounded guy, and he's just facing cans. i think he will get exposed soon, after all against doug evans i'd certainly give evans the first round. this either shows that evans is underated, or huerta is overated. or a bit of both.
I think Kendall Grove is probably the least cared about TUF winner. He's a decent fighter but like others have said, I'd much rather see Marcus Aurelio vs. Clay Guida. Guida always brings it and his fights are usually pretty exciting, and Aurelio's BJJ is really good. I'd say it'll be an explosive ground fight with Guida getting out of crazy submission attempts and exploding in short offensive bursts.
LOL you're one of the people I noticed on here that we always see eye to eye. I see what you're saying this time, but it's not the end of the world lol :D
I think Roger Huerta is good shit, and Guida also impressed me with his performances. I like Patrick Cote and thought his losses were just flukes, but I really don't know... it's like I'm waiting for him to come through and impress everyone, but now it really doesn't seem like that'll happen. I think Kendal Grove really does outclass him, but hopefully they both put on a good show. My money is on Kendal, but I don't want to see Cote just bend over for him.
Time will tell. Overall, I think this will be a good UFC. We've seen some great cards but the fights ended up being pure shit except for the prelims. So you never know! :)
Im sure they're going to end up showing the main card and 2 or maybe 3 of the prelim fights if they're good,
Edit: I think Cote deserves to be on the main card. He has more fights in the UFC than half of the dudes on that card. Plus you know Cote beat the shit out of Doerkson and Leben. I still think Leben lost that fight.
I think Kendall will have his hands full and that might be the upset of the night. Grove has never fought anybody like Cote

I think Kendall will have his hands full and that might be the upset of the night. Grove has never fought anybody like Cote i think because of cote's record that he's heavily underated, he's fought some good guys. just doesn't come across to the casual fan as the most entertaining guy.
i'd mainly like to see guida and mir, because i'm big fans of them both, mainly mir, and would still like to see him come back strong. guida has always been exciting, fighting a guy who subbed gomi, gomi was out after that sub (arm triangle), handing gomi his first loss in pride. how can you not show that fight? lol
personally i would rather see aurelio vs. guida on the main card but guida is what 1-2 in ufc[not taking away from him, considering his performances in his losses} and aurelio is going to be unknown to the casual fans.
the main card makes sense from the business perspective but i would rather see babalu and aurelio on the main.

I think Aurelio will have his hands full here though. Guida is a tough dude who never, EVER slows down.

TUFF fans drive me crazy...
you think im a TUF fan? LOL, you're speaking out your ass. i'm happy with the card, i think it's great from top to bottom, i just think that 2 fights in particular should be on the main card instead of a different two, that makes me a TUF fan?

We can either watch the undercard fights on UFC.com or on Spike at a later date. I wish there was enough PP time to see all the fights. Guys, we know that were getting more out of the UFC then we ever dreamed, just enjoy it.

I think your a TUFF fan by age defaullt. Doesnt matter though. I think the Sobral-Heath fight is the biggest question. Im guessing they arent on the main card because neither fighter is in he UFC's long term plans. Aurelio-Guida would be nice to see as well but Aurelio isnt known to TUFF fans yet. The Mir fight will only be good if it's a quick sub by Mir and if thats the case we will see it anyway. Huerta is exciting to watch and this Crane guy has an interesting record with no defeats, alot of subs, but hasnt fought in a while. Grove will always be on the Main card due to his TUFF status and by the way i actually enjoy his fights.
i only read the cliff's but i agree with your main point. Aurelio/Guida should be on the main card, without a doubt. BUT ppv's are about selling and the TUF generation wants to see the TUF'ers fight...so it really only makes sense from a marketing standpoint to show all of those fights.

MMA vs Boxing, id rather watch 2 guys id never heard of fight it out than watch 9/10 "big" boxing fights. Would love to see a card, like "Stacked" every month. Building fighters up against guys with respectable records in the hope that your guy wins {ie Doug Evens, Gabriel Gonzaga etc} still produces great fights {ie Lauzon-Pulver} & upsets {ie Gonzaga-Cro Cop}.
I would take out Crane, put in Florian, i was actually gonna change more but i think thats all id change. Aw well!

Cote's record in the ufc is very deceiving, because it looks like all his losses were beatdowns, but its not really like that. Hes been competitive in all his fights except the Lutter fight, I think the leben decision was bs, and his debut in the ufc was against a prime Tito Ortiz on late notice. Not only did he perform fairly well, but he dropped Ortiz, a massive lhw dropped by a small middle weight. If it he never fought in the ufc he would be 9 - 0 with 4 tkos, 3 subs and 2 decisions. Personally I don't think hes as bad as some of the other fighters in the ufc but I stopped rooting for him after that Smith fight, where he rocked him and actually stopped to mock him instead of finish him.
I would switch the Huerta fight for the Guida/Aurelio match. I honestly think the Cote/Grove fight will be better than any of the other prelims. Grove will push Cote to perform and this fight should end with a submission or KO. The only fight I might consider replacing it with would be the Heath/Babalu fight. Heath was frustrated as hell with Machida in his last bout and Babalu is coming off a tough KO loss to Lambert...this has potential to be an exciting bout. The other two prelims I could care less...
I think your a TUFF fan by age defaullt. Doesnt matter though. lol fair enough on your opinion, but to be labelled as a TUF fan just because i'm 16 is ridiculous. i actually only became a fan at UFC 54 in mid 05 when somebody recommended it to me rather than WWE which i was tired with, i didn't even know what TUF was until i saw guys like sanchez/griffin/quarry being advertised as TUF1 veterans.
in case you didn't realise, i post a lot of news on this section, which is all MMA related, not just UFC or 'TUF'.
by labelling me as TUF fan, you're making me sound like some dumbass that thinks forrest griffin or diego sanchez are the #1 fighters in the world, and i'm the kind of guy that boo's when the fight goes to the ground.
anyway, autobiography rant over ;) haha.

by labelling me as TUF fan, you're making me sound like some dumbass that thinks forrest griffin or diego sanchez are the #1 fighters in the world, and i'm the kind of guy that boo's when the fight goes to the ground.
anyway, autobiography rant over ;) haha.
