Beginner question about cutting/bulking
Beginner question about cutting/bulking
So I started weight training about 5 weeks ago, and started out eating 3000 calories a day, and around 250 grams of protein. I've gone up from about 160 to 168 (my bf% has gone up with my strength gains). Today I talked to a trainer about nutrition and he told me I should only be eating around 1500-1800 calories a day and I will still grow aslong as I keep eating a lot of protein. He told me not to worry about my calorie intack and just focus on protein intake. I have a lot of faith in this dude, seeing as his used to compete, but his advice went against everything I've learned from reading and talking to people the past few monthes. So I guess what I'm asking is, Is it possible to gain muscle without eating an excess amount of calories, providing that one is still eating an excess of protein? Is it possible to gain muscle without putting on fat, or does the body simply not work this way?
any advice is appreciated

1g of protein per lb of bodyweight is fine.. seeing ur about 170 i would consume about 170-200g of protein, try for a good 250-300g of carbs, and hit aroudn 60-70g of fats and see how u go from there
add it up
180 x 4 = 720
250 x 4 = 1,000
70 x 8 = 560
2280 calories would be a good amnt depending on how active u are outside of the gym also has a factor
eating 250g of protein for a 170 lber is a lil overkill.. if u want to stay lean stick with a high pro/fat diet.. try a 40/30/30.. it works great

Yeah.. I guess I over reacted a little, but someone has to tell him.. Naw I never said that lol. You're post was justified. One can do some major to damage to another persons diet telling them there's 8 cals in a 1g of fat.
