I stopped watching after 2001, and picked up again in 2005, and I don't feel like wikiing it.
when Chyna beat Jarrett for it at No Mercy 99
as silly as it sounds, i feel like it lost its prestige whenthey changed the belt back in '98. it went from a huge, awesome looking prize, to a tiny, oval, light heavyweight belt wanna be.

Not sure. I'd like to see an IC champ win the WWE title again while the IC Champ It's not really prestigious because although Umaga is a bonafide maineventer, he doesn't really defend it. And it's not like anyone in the IC division is even in the same league as Umaga (for being booked wise.)
I thought it was staging a comeback with the Nitro vs Carlito vs Benjamin feud they had going last spring.
Seems like J Hardy ****ed up the latest chance for the prestige of the belt to be revived. Jeff seemed like he was going to go over Umaga clean at Summerslam. What an idiot.
But fortunately for Jeff, wwe like to reward their immature superstars. (cough* Orton* cough) S look for Jeff to get the WWE Championship in 4 months time. :D

/thread I disagree. What Trips did to it was utterly retarded. But when the belt was reinstated, alot of good feuds were centered around it. Christian got a push from it. Ortons 7 month reign was food, including his feud with Edge when he dropped it.
One thing that's shameful is the fact that WM19 was the last WM the belt was defended.
Umaga is a good worker for a big guy, but he doesnt really need the belt. The entire time he's had it, both reigns, his only 'feud' was with Santino. He doesnt need the belt to be over.

i hope you spoke to him personally on that one, as to be quite honest with you, if you didn't and you're linkin that decision to the fact he was in a match involving that stipulation, then i'd change your comment and put the blame on eric bischoff's head. until you show me legit proof and not hearsay, then my estimation of you got flushed down the toilet

The reason most people blame Triple H for the demise of the IC title is because it was right around this time that Triple H was given the World title and negating the whole Unified Champion idea. I know no one will ever change your mind but many like myself find this too much of a coincidence and feel major politics had to be played by Triple H for him to be given the World title and the IC title to be unified with it in that short time frame.
