So my school says I need an ethernet cable to connect to the internet in my dorm room. I went to bestbuy and bought one, but I'm not sure if I got the right one. Bestbuy told me they were all the same.
This is what my school website said:
"Computer cables (5e and RG6) are available for purchase at the University Campus Bookstore and may also be purchased at numerous off campus stores."
I dunno what the 5e and RG6 shit means. The cable I bought from bestbuy is a CAT6 premium network cable. on the box it says RJ45 Male to Male (no homo). Will this work? computer peoples plz help me.
If you asked them for an ethernet cable, they should have gave you one, they're pretty standard, you don't need to worry about the 5e and rg6, just look at the ends, it should look a bit wider than a phone cord connector, and have red green and blue wires running into the end.

cat6 is prolly overkill. how much did u pay for it?
they got some really good deals on ebay. If you need it sooner i would see how much it is at the bookstore.

You do NOT need Cat6. Cat5e is lesser grade, but unless you're running some intense bandwidth, Cat5e will be fine. My shop charges $1 per foot, and I think we overcharge. $18 for 7' is WAY overpriced. Sounds like RadioSmack prices.
