Low thyroid levels

Low thyroid levels
My doc just told me today that I have low thyroid levels. I will be going back two weeks from now after they conducted further test on my blood. My question is what will this ultimately mean for me.
I am not overweight nor do I feel any fatigue. I am 6'3 230 14 or 15% body fat.
Anybody have even the slightest idea what is going on.

Answer:

If you're not having any symptoms, why did he check it in the first place? Routine physical? I would get either a second blood test done or a second opinion from a different doctor. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism about 3 years ago. My symptoms were constantly being tired, especially around 2-4 p.m. ,uncontrollable weight gain and hair loss. I take Armour Thyroid every night before bed to compensate for my low thyroid levels. It has helped, but I still am tweaking the dosage with my doctor. That being said, if you aren't experiencing any of the symptoms of being Hypo, then I wouldn't suggest taking any medication until it is confirmed with a second or third blood test that your thyroid levels are indeed low.

Thanks. I was undergoing a routine physical. I am currently having further test done.

Lab tests can be off sometimes. If you are not having symptoms then even if there is a problem it is well worth making absolutely sure you and your doc understand the underlying cause, if possible, or at least make sure there really is a problem, before starting medication.

I'd certainly get a 2nd opinion as stated by previous posters.
I've attached a link which you may wish to read. Clearly these are just the opinions and thoughts of an individual (Vince Gironda) and not a MD.
I did however find the article interesting
