Fruits are bad for cutting?
Fruits are bad for cutting?
I'm just wondering, how many fruits should you have a day while cutting? I thought they were considered complex carbs and thus ok to eat while on a cut. I usually have 1 or 2 bananas a day and maybe a fuji apples. After reading around here a little more though, it seems that maybe the fruits contain too much sugar and that I need to cut them out all together? Anyone have any opinions or experiences with eating fruit on a cut? Thanks!
Just to reaffirm you with what you said, they do have a good amount of sugar in them and they can throw off insulin levels so a lot of people stay away from them while on a cut but at the same time they are healthy foods so some people never stop eating them.
...After reading around here a little more though, it seems that maybe the fruits contain too much sugar and that I need to cut them out all together? That's a matter of opinion, and that opinion would be the opposite from mine. :)
Obviously you can overdo them; you can overdo just about anything. But I would not cut them out completely.
Hello, fruits are not bad at all for dieting, in fact there is website out there by the US gov. that it's called www.5aday.gov or something like that which stimulates people to have 5 fruits a day.
I think u should quit bananas though, and try to eat fruits like apples, pineapples, peaches, etc. because bananas have starches

If they fit into your calorie/macronutrient intake they are absolutely fine.
Fruits & vegetables are both excellent sources for vitamins and minerals and also help curve cravings for sweets ..
Fruit = natures candy ;)
Fruit is the king, ontop of the fact that it tastes awsome I lost over 30kg eating 2 - 4 pience of fruit a day and 1 - 3 low fat fruit yoghuts a day...
Enough Said on the friggin is fruit bad topic!
By the way, throw away the Dr. Atkin's theory of dieting, he was a crazy scientist. His 100% protein system doesn't work :-)

personally I wouldn't eliminate fruits, when cutting I'm eliminating bad unhealthy foods. As long as the fruits fit in my daily macros, then I ok with eating them

Juan Carlos Don't be stupid, bananas are low gi, contain good fibre and potassum.
well, aside from all this scientific evidence and low gi stuff, I certainly notice a slow down in weight loss if I add any significant source of carbs to my diet. But it depends man, I am really fat and I can't afford to eat as much sugary foods compared to a skinnier guy. Best bet is to include them in your diet and if you notice a slow down in pace cut your carbs first.

..............
It's a personal decision. I don't keep track of macros at all and eat 5-10 pieces of fruit a day (at least 2 bananas). My philosophy is to simply eat whole, clean, natural foods and workout like a beast.
Yes fruit has natural sugar, but most also have a lot of fiber which slows the absorbtion. It's splitting hairs really, and I couldn't care less about the whole GI/fruit/carb hysteria that exists within the fitness community these days. Anything can be overdone, but fruit is one thing that it will be extremely hard to overdo...... unless you are a slave to macro ratios, which I think are absolutely ridiculous.
Stay away from bananas....nutritionally speaking when it comes to cutting, they are the devil. They are a natural source of dextrose, so it's not really a good idea to eat them when trying to lose fat.

If one is going to be anal about it, they could simply have a banana PRE or PWO.
I'll never understand why people think bananas are like a stick of dynamite with the fuse lit.

Oh for god's sake - Fruit is fine..America is not fat for eating too many strawberries people. Unless your competing the sugar in fruit should not be of any concern and even then it usually isn't. Its calories in vs calories out, I measure the amount of fruit I eat by the pound not the serving.
Fruit is absolutely fine on a cut. Infact I'd suggest you snack on it within your calorie limit during the day to keep those energy levels up. It's full of nutrients, and the fibre will regulate the sugar release, so don't worry about any insulin spikes because of the high sugar content.
Eat fruit!
I'm going to listen to the guy that has abs in his av. lol.
I have lost about 60 pounds eating 2 pieces of fruit a day I usually have one pre and post workout.
Right on man! Great work!
Personal experience.
You've lost over 300 lbs and think that a banana would have/ did sabotage your efforts? Give me a break man.
Hopkinfrog is dead on. It's calories in v/s calories out, period. The hysteria over macros and high/low carb is so ridiculous. If you burn more calories than you take in, you lose weight. If you take in more than you burn, you lose weight. Hell, I've known people (bodybuilders) who would even calculate a walk with their dog and try to compensate in calories. THIS IS MADNESS lol.
While some people may be carb sensitive, I think it's vastly overstated. I lost 100 lbs eating up to 10 pieces of fruit a day..... it's cals in v/s out. Anyone who thinks that fruit is a significant contributing factor in obesity/being overweight and equally detrimental to one's fat loss goals is outright retarded.
fruits are the bomb. so long as they fit in your macro and you remember that they contain natural sugars (like honey), they're ideal if anything. i personally eat two apples smothered in natural peanut butter and a banana everday.
refined sugars like high fructose corn syrup (found in soda) are the devil. never confuse natural with refined
I'm going to listen to the guy that has abs in his av. lol. Yeah, because the guy who lost 300+ lbs. knows nothing :P
I think fruits are alright for cutting. Personally, I like apples and bananas.
Definitely shy away from fruit juices though.

Its calories in vs calories out, I measure the amount of fruit I eat by the pound not the serving. I never said don't eat fruit. I said stay away from bananas, for God's sake...there is a ****ing reason they're taken post and prework out for you ectos...it's because it causes a massive INSULIN spike. I personally STALLED at losing weight after taking someone's advice in the nutrition forum when they told me to start eating bananas while cutting and since it was the ONLY thing I added to my diet, I attributed the plateau to the greater amount of sugar contained in the bananas I was eating. Amazingly, I started losing again when I removed them from my cutting diet.

Amazingly, I started losing again when I removed them from my cutting diet. First off, just cause someone's thin doesn't mean they're ecto. I was 260 lbs so I'm not one of those people who has always been thin. I doubt you needed to lose 300lbs from eating too many bananas, if your eating at a caloric deficit, even if you ate all bananas, you lose weight. Like Scott~ said its that simple
