Results are back and they aren't good.. what are my options from here?
Hey all I'm a 21 year old who has the following problems:
- Constant lethargy
- Weak libido
- Muscle weakness
- Increased bodyfat
- Down/depressed moods
My results came back yesterday and they're what I was hoping they wouldn't be. I got a 9.5 on free test on the 8.5-27 scale. The reason I was hoping these wouldn't is they're very low while still being just making it into the 8.5 scale meaning I can't get test therapy. My GP sent me a referral to the endo who I saw yesterday and he's the one that gave me the results and said he can't do anything because they're in the normal range.
Now before I saw the endo I spoke to my GP and he told me he can put me on stimulants to improve my mood, lethargy, increased bodyfat and lethargy if the results wouldn't allow test replacement therapy. I'll probably see him tomorrow or very soon so what should I do? I've read on these forums about anti aging clinics and the like but I haven't heard of anything of that nature here in Melbourne Australia.
I dunno how great these stims will be and how they will react to muscle gains so what are my options from here? I've been tested for free test three times and each time it's been around 9.5-10.
Any advice is appreciated,
thanks guys

Answer:

Try Gaspari's Novedex XT that should boost ur free test and lower estro levels....
"Halovar" increases free test also

This is a list of Dr.'s we have at STTM site start calling them and tell them you need to be tested to see why your levels of testosterone are so low. You need to know this anyway before you go on testosterone meds.
You should have your Cortisol levels, Thyroid, Estradiol, liver and so on tested. But when your asking them this ask if they find nothing is doing this will they treat your low testosterone levels and tell them what your test was.

Alright thanks for the reply mate.
Anyone else?

Answer:

That's interesting...when I was tested for free test the scale I was compared against for "normal levels" was 10-30 (Univ of Michigan Health System). Odd that the scale varies...

Answer:

Yeah that is a bit strange. How did you manage?

You should speak to your endo again and explain to him that NO 21 year old should have testosterone at the lower end of the range. Your results are okay for a 60 year old, but not for you! Speak your mind, dont be scared.
And being prescribed stimulants for a problem that is obviously hormonal, is moronic at best, I really wish i could have a word with that doctor of yours.

And being prescribed stimulants for a problem that is obviously hormonal, is moronic at best, I really wish i could have a word with that doctor of yours. x2 vadim. as a med student, i know there's almost NO education on testosterone levels/HRT, ect. there isn't even age-specific data; i've been unable to find what a normal T level for a 25 year old is, they always list the range of 250-1200 for ALL MEN, regardless of age. obviously, that 1200 is for an 18 year old freak, and 250 is for the 80 year old in his last days, but they don't teach us that.
i agree that the primary concern is probably low testosterone, but i have to disagree that prescribing stimulants is a *totally* wrong choice. i take ritalin, and i can definitely attest that it will greatly improve your mood and energy levels. that said, i don't think stims are the best choice, but they're an appropriate option to consider.
you probably are going to have to go doctor shopping- it took 6 months for my 62 year old dad to find a doc in our area that was enlightened enough to prescribe people HRT. 98% of docs know NOTHING about it, and because of the taboo nature of steroids, won't prescribe them.
gl!

Alright thanks guys. What should I ask my doctor when I see him in the next few days?

Answer:

Alright thanks guys. What should I ask my doctor when I see him in the next few days? full blood panel:
check for insulin resistence (forget the fasting glucose, get the
hemoglobin test instead)
red, white, total count
total test, free test, estradiol (very important!)
B-12
electrolytes
cholesterol
LH/FSH
TSH (thyroid)
do NOT accept 'its normal' or 'its within range' as an answer,
get a copy and see what those results really are!
there are probably more tests that should be done, but those
are the ones i can remember off the top of my head ...
The fact that your 'free test' is low is indicative of something,
but the list of 'causes' is a mile long ... stress, poor diet, lack
of sleep can lower testosterone ... as can illnesses and diseases ...
but before you start worrying about that, get a full panel work up.

Alright thanks mate. See I just don't want to sound too pushy or make it sound like I'm telling him how to do his job because he's the doctor with the MD not me. You know what I mean?
